Thoughts are with Istanbul

At least 35 people have lost their lives in an attack on a nightclub in Istanbul, the city's governor has said.

Among the dead is one police officer, Vasip Sahin stated, adding that it was a terror attack.

At least another 40 were injured in the attack which took place in the Reina nightclub, in the Ortakoy area, at about 01:30 local time (23:30 GMT).

One attacker was involved, the governor said, while CNN Turk reported he was dressed in a Santa Claus costume.

There were reportedly several hundred people in the nightclub at the time, some of whom are believed to have jumped into the Bosphorus to escape.
Istanbul had been on high alert with some 17,000 police officers on duty in the city, following a string of terror attacks in recent months.

Sad start to the year.

If it's true that the perpetrator was dressed as Santa Claus there's a worrying issue here. Some of Turkish security personnel were intermingled with the crowds dressed as Santa Claus. I'm not pointing any fingers, just an observation.

I wish I could block these type of threads, like we don't see it on our TV screens or hear about it enough from people or listen to it in our car.

RIP to the victims,

Perhaps the way these women were dressed was an insult to the prophet.

I have self discipline but in this case it's not me who needs it. But you already picked a side to have not noticed. So how about some self discipline.

Is that sarcasm or are you serious?

RIP to all those that died and condolences to all the families.

I know people do not want the terrorists to win and effect the way people want to live their lives, but I would no way be out in a club in that region partying to celebrate the NY. Especially with all the instability in that region.

I agree, until it does, you would be taking a huge risk going to any public place where masses of people will be gathered.

Reported another attack this afternoon
A gunman has reportedly opened fire in a mosque in Istanbul, less than 24 hours after 39 people were killed in an attack on a nightclub.
Two people were injured and rushed to hospital after a man opened fire with a rifle when people were gathering at the Hasan Pasha Mosque in Algeria for prayer this afternoon.
