"Islam forbids the consumption of pork meat or products containing pork."
Since he's not consuming the sausages or bacon surely it's ok to handle it? After all you can wear gloves or wash your hands....

    In a word, "No".

hmmm I wonder if a muslin care worker would refuse to help feed someone because they asked for sausages and mash.

I for one am simply curious. I have no prejudice
andyway I have found a qoute myself. on ]wikipedia

Im sorry i know it is against his religion but he works in catering, it is his chosen career he should have know the handling of pork would be involved in this line of work, he should have tryed to opt for another career rather than one handling food as some things involved are aginst his belives. Im not saying he should stop beliving his religion but come on this is stupid that he is trying to sue over this, no one was discrimnating what he belived, just trying to get him to do his job

yes thats all very well but I meant something written for all to see, anyway as I said I have found a line or two saying

And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it … And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it is unclean unto you. Ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcass

so In light of that, he has a point I guess.

His employment contract (As most do) would state that his employers would try and acomodate him, as they would anyone of other religions.

When I worked in a night shelter, a co-worker couldn't handle pork products, so on the days we served pork, I swapped with him. No fuss, no drama, no hatred, just co-operation.

this guy has an issue with his employer and it makes the bbc news headlines. what a petty story that'll whip up mor hatred, it is the er flavour of the month or everyday it seems

Islam holds similiar views to judaism as regards pork.

I have to say I feel you have a point there, it's a shame that something like this got as far as the news really.

Mind you.....muslin shop owners still stack their shelves with wine gums....wine gums contain gelatine no? Gelatine is a pork by product no?

And if he wasn't given the job he'd probably sue them because he's being discriminated against. Can't win

How about this, Britain's only muslim pig farmer.

"Meanwhile, in Wiltshire, his elder brother, John, campaigns against exactly the sort of prejudice that Irving displays. John Irving, 75, is chairman of Wiltshire Racial Equality Council and a devout Muslim. Living on a pig farm in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, John Irving is also, probably, Britain's only Muslim pig farmer. He converted to Islam in 1981 while commanding troops for the Sultan of Oman and now attends Trowbridge's mosque on a regular basis"

    independent.co.uk/new…tml

I would like to point out this source is still valid dispite connections to David Irving.

    Again it's consumption vs handling.

    Cultivation and Processing

Gelatine does not occur "free" in nature. It has to be made or manufactured. However, it is a natural ingredient, in that it derived from natural ingredients and has no additives. Nowadays, it is made mainly from beef bones and hides and pork skin, which contain protein collagen, the essential ingredient required for the production of gelatine.

This all reminds me, is it okay for Muslims to eat Rowntrees Fruit Pastels? They do contain gelatin, but the packaging doesn't say whether it's pork or beef, iirc.

Also, what're the repercussions for a Muslim that eats pork gelatin? Is it okay with Allah if it was an accident? I feel kinda bad about it all, because I gave a fruit pastel to a friend, forgetting that he was a Muslim...

gelatine is forbidden per se and if a Muslim eats something unknowingly the item should be refrained from in future.
    God is all forgiving

I'm surprised they wanted bacon cooked anyway! Canibalism!!!

On a similar subject. I read in the paper today about a muslim doctor being suspended for writing a paper stating that Gay people spread disease (and other slanderous remarks.)

I'm not sure quite how he passed his exams - or whether his discriminatory views make him potentially another Harold Shipman.

No problem - as a Scotsman, part of my traditional dress allows that I may tuck a knife into my sock.

Regarding the Sikhs and their omission from the helmet law when riding motorbikes, I agree, that doesn't seem too good an idea. I don't want these guys to get hurt. Can we not have super-size helmets that won't disturb their headgear but that'll also keep their heads safe in the event of an accident? Or would a helmet be all that necessary anyway, given all the padding they develop over the years? I'd be curious to know, if there's any Sikhs present.

'compensation culture' it is called, many people have sued companies and organisation over trivial matters
however this guy had an agreement in place which the police force broke.as regards the sikhs i also find it interesting how they are allowed to carry weapons.

Clearly it refers to a doctor who doesn't know what he's talking about. Or are you agreeing with his comments about gay people? Reference to Harrold Shipman? Who knows what someone that writes such nonsense is capable of. He's been suspended for it - so clearly the medical authorities don't share you're views.
