    Items In Xmas Sales

I bought an item of clothing in a Christmas sale on 24th December, the coat-hanger stated "size 18". When my younger sister opened it on Christmas day it was "size 12".

I took it back to the shop on 26th (10 mile round trip) and asked to exchange it as the shop put the wrong size on.....the price went back up and they said I have to pay the excess if I want to exchange - despite ALL labels still been attached.

    Can they do this ?

i didnt think they could if it was the same item just different size ?

id ring the head office of the store as they shouldnt be able to do that, its there mistake not yours. i know if you buy a full price item and it goes in the sale you will only get the sale price refunded unless you have the reciept.

Depends on the shops returns policy. Which store ?

If you have the receipt it should be an exchange. there mistake, you bought in good faith.

yeah i think they should exchange it

If you have proof of purchase/price paid then there should be no problem with a straight exchange.
If you have no proof then usually it is the current price though the till

You also don't need a receipt for proof ....your credit card statement will do also ....

Yeah, I have the receipt, bag and item was just as I bought it with all tags.

I have emailed their website, but its a busy time, so may not get a response for ages...

    Thanks everyone !

I thought that too - all I wanted was like-for-like, only another size.

Its not as though they'll lose out as they can just sell my item again.....

Surely easiest way to do it is to take it back without the receipt then it will come up at same price as the larger size you are after?
