It's my OH's birthday! I need a hotel/something amazing for the weekend 14-16 Nov!

I'm simply no good at this, and after looking for hours, have admitted defeat! Can anyone help?!

I would like to take my OH to a nice hotel, or similar, something that is going to impress her, but I have a limit of £200-250 to spend on a maximum of 2 nights (Fri and Sat night). For the upper limit, it has to be something amazing.

We're in Swindon, but I can travel I'd say up to around 250 miles at the max, but no more, as we might be going after work if it's on a Friday

Please HUKD, I need your help!!!

(Due to me starting a new job soon, I'm not sure if I will be able to get the Friday or Monday off, but if there's a better deal on staying a Saturday and Sunday, I would try to arrange this beforehand. It may be that we only want to stay Saturday night, depending where it is.)

I stayed there a few years back. UNBELIEVABLE quality. You may get a deal on tinterweb or by calling. Highly recommended.

How about Oxford? The Hawkwell House is very nice hawkwellhouse.co.uk/ and not too close to (or too far from) the city centre. It is in Iffley, which is quite quiet, close to the river which you can follow to walk into the city.

Prices are just in your range and include a full English breakfast: hawkwellhouse.co.uk/rat…php They have a very nice restaurant as well: hawkwellhouse.co.uk/foo…php and a good menu: hawkwellhouse.co.uk/spe…htm

It might be worth looking at whether you can get in on their leisure break special: hawkwellhouse.co.uk/pac…php

My company has used them quite a bit to put up foreign visitors and everybody has been very pleased with their stay.

Might be a risk though, if they go bust or something? LOL!

I will look into those, and get back to you. Thank you!

I was given the details in an email ( I am a club member). You choose which hotel you like ( www.qhotels.co.uk/hotels/crewe-hall-crewe-cheshire.aspx ) this is for a hotel we looked at outside Crewe. Remember to enter the promotional code QAA when you search for dates

I need to read posts properly! I didn't see you mentioned 'QAA' in the promo code bit

I can't see anything about booking that massage thing though when I went through the process?

I'm thinking it's fairly fantastic value for money! I looked at one place, and it said £212. Now, a 3-Course meal must cost around the £30-50 mark pp by itself, which would take me up to almost the cost of the room! That's ignoring the breakfast you get, and the room itself!

If I booked that deal, would it mean we have:
Friday evening - Dinner
Saturday Morning - Breakfast
Saturday evening - Dinner
Sunday Morning - Breakfast

?? Or would it mean:

Saturday Morning - Breakfast
Saturday Evening - Dinner
Sunday Morning - Breakfast
Sunday Evening - Dinner

I'm presuming it's the former?

(They seem like really nice hotels, and certain to impress my OH. Just trying to decide where to stay now!!!! You got any ideas Fizzo? I want something REALLY impressive, both from the outside and the inside.

Anyone else got any ideas?

Hi Spod,

Many thanks for those links. I will look into them, although Oxford is perhaps a little too near... Not too much point when we can easily get there within 30 mins or so ordinarily.

It would mean the former.

The massage offer was mentioned in my email. it involves a 1hr body massage, 1 hr facial including head massage, skin consultation and a manicure for £55. My wife is spreading the treatments over the weekend rather than have one 3 hour session.

we phoned the hotel we fancied first and made sure that the spa treatment was available first, provisionally booked that and then booked the room on the net.

We have stayed at Norton Park which is just outside Winchester. Its a modern hotel with nice decor. Close to Stonehenge or Portsmouth depending on what you want to do during the days

Hope this helps

Me and hubby are going away that weekend too!

I think we have decided on Brandon Hall Hotel And Spa in Coventry which is 2 nights b & b and dinner on first night for £200. Reviews are good too.

I recommend going on www.tripadvisor.co.uk and seeing the reviews
Also www.superbreak.co.uk does pretty good deals

How about Bath? I took my OH there for our birthdays in november lsat year. Just make sure you book restaurants etc in advance, and try to get a hotel right in the centre of town. Wouldn't recommend where we stayed, but can't remember what it was called!

Is there anywhere that would do all the spa stuff inclusive of the price? I know my OH would like spa stuff.

Original Poster

Fizz, what do you get included with what you pay?

Do you get to go in the pool?
What else can you do inc of the price and non-inc?
Are drinks included in the inclusive meals, or not? Breakfast and Dinner

What's the latest we can have dinner on the Friday? We would arrive quite late.

Still trying to find one that is ultra modern on the inside, but with an impressive exterior. Some of them look horrible from the outside. Ultra Modern on the inside is a must though.

Can't see that I'm going to get a better deal than this though, with 2 breakfasts, and 2 dinners included. That's gotta be worth £100 in itself, if not more.

Forgot to mention that you get a free bottle of champagne and box of chocolates in your room on arrival.

Yep, saw that bit

Any ideas on my previous post Fizz?
