I've deleted my virgin broadband connection Help Please

Long story short Ive deleted my dads broadband connection settings on his pc.
He is with virgin, when we try and create a new connection it asks for username and password ( which we can't find. I rang virgin who also canot find these details ?????.
So can anybody out there help me get his internet up and running again ??
I would be soooo grateful as I feel extremely guilty.
He is running on Vista by the way.
    Many Thanks.

Wired at the min, it all started by trying to install a wireless router Ive made a big boo boo I think.

    hiya
    ..simplest way
..just go into safe mode & do a system restore to say a day or two before the incident occured
I think you enter safe mode straight after powering on by continuously tapping F8 key or is it F12 key?
That should move your pc back to a state before you had the problem.
Don't worry one or the other key should work

Your virus / other security definitions may then need re-updating..should occur automatically

we have tried every available username and password we can think of but to no avail i think the username should be [email protected] but no clue what the password is was hoping it could be bypassed . Dont understand why virgin have no record of this.

is this different to just doing a system restore as that hasn't worked. Sorry if I sound a bit thick but I've been at this for hours now and I've got a serious headache.

Since when did you need a username and password to connect to virgin :|.

Are you using Ethernet or USB?

i guess ur using adsl broadband as cable broadband doesn't need a username or password

    Oh bless.
I wouldnt think your going to get any more restore points in safe mode but worth trying.

Failing that i would call Virgin again and if they still wont help you, cancel the broadband with them and see if they come up with answer to stop you from leaving

Just plug the ethernet in, reboot the modem for 30 seconds, and try and get on a website, if not reboot the pc. that should work.

We've been with NTL / VM for years, never once had to put a UN/PW in for the account.

You do initially to engage/register the modem or something; I had to.

    hiya
do you mean 'system restore was unsuccessful' or 'was system restore successful but didn't resolve the problem'
'System restore' is a funny one .. In my experience , it seems to work well with a fresh WIN-install pc & then after a while you run into difficulty trying to restore windows from the system when it's going at full throttle
Anyway Booting into 'safe mode' allows a minimum of drivers to run (screen looks fuzzy like an ancient computer) once you get into system restore from within SM, restoration will work.

Recently put back a mates Pc, by about 6 months I think , within SM , after all else failed!!
    Works without fail.

From the sounds of it, it needs to be turned off (modem) and turned back on after 30 sec.
It needs to assign an IP to the computer.

From my previous exp. Wired connections need the modem to be rebooted to assign the connection an IP.

Are you using the origional cable modem.
I believe each modem has a unique Mac address (which is used to identify your account once registered with Vigin.).

right click on the network icon at bottom right of screen.

    click Network and sharing centre

then click on manage network connections

make sure all items on list are ticked

select internet protocol version 6 TCP/IPv6 , then click on properties obtain address automatically , also obtain dns address automatically , make sure these are both ticked then press OK

now go to internet protocol version 4 TCP/IPv6 , click properties and again make sure the obtain ip address automatically and obtain DNS automatically are selected , press OK

restart your machine , power everything off at the wall and swictch back on, hey presto lol usually does this to me when i unplug wireless router and plug ethernet in

also open up the web browser , and go to tools at the top right , click on internet options, go to the connections tab, at the bottom click on the lan settings button and make sure the automatically detect settings box is checked  apply and OK ,

you should be up and running again if not let me know

that would make no difference

after the initial set up you never need the password again, turn pc off, unplug modem for 30 sec plug it back in turn pc on. should be it.

There seems like there may be a fair bit on confusion here.

In your original post you said you deleted the PC's connection settings and that the modem is connected by ethernet. If that's the case then you don't need to worry about a username and password, that's all safely stored on the modem and will work fine once you reestablish the connection.

Try opening up the Network and Sharing Center in control panel and then click 'manage network connections'. What do you see here?

Look in his email system and see if you still have the old emails from virgin giving his logon details. This will also give you his email address if you dont know it.

Virgin also MAIL details to you (in an envelope) when you first register so see if he has those.

Despite what others are saying your DO need a userid and password for Virgin cable (not to use the actual broadband but to log on and do selfcare - such as register new emails addresses etc)

This is where you login to Virgin self care
