    Jack Russell dogs

Anyone have one, and how are they as pets? Bear in mind, I've never owned a dog before and am planning on getting one.

    little ankle biters..... ....cute though!

I am a dog handler, if you feel your not 100% competent with dogs then i wouldnt recommend you owning a terrier. They need a lot of work and consistent handling. Jacks are ratters too, so you have to be prepared for that. She says as her staffordshire bull terrier is sprawled on her legs snoring!

oooh any tips on a very eager 3 yr old chocolate labrador who chews through haltis and pull shoulders out of sockets just to get to the field to play...... I swear one arm is longer than the other now :giggle:

I've never had a dog, but when I see Jack Russells in town they're always yappy little things that come around my ankles and pester me lol.

We had a Jack Russell in the past and they are great wee dogs ..... the only issue with them is they have no fear and i don't think they realise they are about a fifth of the size of a rottweiler.

Wanna swap your lab for mine karen?

As a working dog they are good.
As a family pet I personally wouldn't have one especially near young children and more especially, as Lulu says above, if you don't have ample experience with (working) dogs.

Someone will now come along and say their Jack sleeps with their newborn baby etc etc with absolutely no problem !

    Yeah they are complete nutters.

My girl friend has one and when it gets bored it winds up my english bull terrier, not the cleverest thing to do.

Saying that the bull terrier gets it's own back, he picks it up by the scuff of the neck and dumps it in the kitchen bin

    Good post. Someone with knowledge.

Not a fan of them myself, future mother-in-law has one and they are yappy / snappy.

We have a Boxer, which I would not recommend as your first dog.

Personally, I would go for a Beagle. Full of fun, and small enough to manage!

:-( oh no, sorry to hear. I'd be in pieces without Chunk, hes a big part of the family now.

My dog is part jack russel, part yorkie and he's a livewire lol. really great though with our kids and visitors. the only time he can be a bit much is if the kids are on the floor when he is having a mad moment lol, he tends to run straight over the top of them. other than that, he's as gentle as a lamb.
