    January Sales - A Myth??

    Hi
I am looking to but a new LCD TV and have found the one that I want - a 40" Samsung selling for about £780. Of course, listening to them in store at Currys or Dixons or wherever you go, they will lead you to believe that this is when they drop their prices (pre-Xmas) and that afterwards, things will actually be more expensive!
Any recommendations? Do I wait until after Christmas or actually, are the traditional January sales now just a bit of a myth and chances are that the price actually won't be much different??
I'm only after people's opinions. Don't worry, I won't hold you to it should I end up paying more whichever option I decide upon!!!
    Cheers.
    :santa:

The January sales aren't a myth but shops only discount the stuff they struggle to sell at the higher prices.

Thanks. I think I'm going to give into temptation and buy now!

If you were concerned with price you would buy online from a retailer that isn't part of the Dixons/Currys group. They are always expensive.

theres no such thing as a good january sale anymore. only the **** no one wants is cheaper lol :P

i would recommend the LE40r88BD from dixons for £614 delivered with the "gimme5" code. I just bought one and very pleased with the PQ on this tv and the value for money. It's great with the PS3.

    Not a myth as such...

However, store artificially inflate their prices before Xmas because they know that the majority of people are shopping for Xmas and will pay almost any price.

After Xmas, sales drop substantially so in order to maintain cash flow stores cut prices. Sometimes this can be alsmost to cost price, simply to keep revenue flowing.

It's all the stuff they cannot get off nomrally that goes into the so called "january sale"

I ended up getting a Samsunt 37" LCD from Richer Sounds for £629 with a free screen cleaning kit and 5 year at home warrenty which also has new for old. The TV should have been £714 plus an extra £10 for the cleaning kit but got it cheaper as told them I seen the TV cheaper from another retailer so they gave me a better price and their is no hassle if it goes wrong as they will come to me rather than me sending the TV back.

I was going to go for a 40" but their was not much difference in screen si\e but a few hundred in price and the TV is in my bedroom so 37" was probably the max in screen size I could have got
