Japan fixed this road in 6 days ( why are the roads here so bad )

Japan's world-class transportation infrastructure couldn't withstand this month's 9.0-magnitutde quake, but their construction teams are still amazing. This stretch of highway was repaired in just six days by a Herculean road crew. This is the triumph of Japanese engineering.

we need some Japanese engineering here most the roads look like the first picture and have done for 2 years now

    to be expected! tbh

there are less back handers in japan.

That would take 5 years to fix if it was the uk.

They need the roads safe so people can flee the nuclear power station that is in meltdown.

Wow, that really is something! I can't even imagine how long it would take the UK to recover from something like what Japan has been hit with. A bit of snow and our country grinds to a halt!

They are not paying out billions to bomb Libya etc.

It's taken the council lackies round here 8 weeks to take down and rebuild a 3 foot high retaining wall, probably 150 yards in length. There's been at least three people working on it daily. No sense of urgency that's the problem.

They used the donations from other countries

they dont mess about in Japan.

Maybe it isn't so much the engineers of the government.

Maybe it's just that the Japanese people are more motivated than people in this country. Maybe that's due to the disaster or maybe it's something in their culture.

But people in this country do like a good moan and something for nothing.

That was the point I was making with the wall. The council workers had no incentive to get it done. The signs said roadworks for eight weeks and unsurprisingly they took exactly eight weeks. Either it was a fantastic estimate or the workers saw the eight weeks as the deadline and made sure they worked to it.

I'd like to see the road in a years time.

Wowwwwwwwwwww, not often I say this, but that is impressive.

The photo taken on the 23rd has been taken further down the road, im using the hedgerow on the right and the green sign in the left as reference points, it could be the road further down was uneffected by the quake, and by moving camera position it appears that the road has been fixed. Not unless someone else can show other photos or videos to prove other wise, I'm not sure about this.

better photos...I think the undamaged photo may have been taken before the quake.....look at the hedgerow on the left.....that looks like a lot more than 6 days growth....one hedge is quite thinned out and on the other picture it's full and lush.

Japan must not have the policy you must have at least 3 people watching and one person lent on the spare spade to one person working.

You know that Canada is involved in enforcing the no-fly zone don't you?

And it is for a good cause, because we believe in democracy. Hopefully other Arab states will support it.
