i hate stupid questions like that... its like durgh i need the money!

I think your reason as you have stated is a good enough one

I have just got a job with the NHS and a word of warning, if you get an interview they hit you a scenario situation and also like you to state what your strengths and weaknesses are - just a heads up

Is there not any websites to copy and paste stuff off? I know its cheating but it is THE worst part of a job app!

    Just tell the truth...................................

You need the money to supply your £20 a day cocaine habit and that the more money they pay you the less inclined you will be to steal the patients prescription drugs and personal belongings. I find that honesty pays.

I usually put something like, I have always been very interested in............(the job) and know that I would be an asset to your company etc etc

lol i doubt she would of put that mate no need to tell her

as long as you cover the essential column in the person specification you will get an interview for the post. Just tell them you get to use your strengths as a caring person

On a more serious note, I'd answer that I have a caring nature and want to be in a position to use my existing personal skills to help the patients whilst learning additional skills that will further my career.

    How about...

I think its important to play to my strengths which are dealing with people and practical hands-on activity. I work well as a part of a team but can handle responsibility as an individual. I want a career in health care and I see this role as a perfect opportunity to build my experience, learn and contribute to the job and help patients.

    or something similar :-)

why don't you bulet point the reasons that you really do want the job then work all those points into a paragraph.
if you have any previous caring experience say how rewarding and for-filling you found helping other people out.

not when there can be 180 odd aplicants for the job... you really need to make it stand out...yet don't write an essay.

If you write that you can do something try and include an example. dont just say "I have......" or " I can...."

Gaining experience as a Healthcare Assistant would be good preparation for pursuing further opportunities within the Health care system and enable me to fulfill my ultimate goal of becoming a midwife.

i have only ever worked in banking in a call centre...so have never had previous experience...i understand they are totally different careers but its something ive wanted to do for years and now want to follow my dreams! How can i use my previous experience to show how i can be good for the job?!

well you've had previous experience of dealing with people - so build on that.

Also, I think because you've wanted to do it for years and it's a dream that will shine through when you start to talk about the job - sometimes this is more important than experience - you can learn a job!

The NHS recruitment policy states that if someone meets the minimum specification for the job then we have to interview them... Can't remember seeing more than ten applicants for a Band 2 post in the last two years anyways, seems some people would rather be unemployed than work for a wage :whistling:

serious?! I have a young daughter but i really really want to work (i love her to bits but we both need our own independance)and i would rather return to work doing something i want to.

Obviously there are extreme circumstances, but basically if you meet the minimum spec, and spell it out in your application then you will get an interview. Get back to me then and I will give you some top tips!

I work in recrutment in HR...for the NHS

There are way more than 10 applicants per job here...the one i stated had 180 applicants was a band 3 job.

I've known people meet more than the minimum and not get an interview.

What was the post? I used to be HR but moved to something where I can write my own policies and procedures :-D (still NHS though)

You will not get an interview just by meeting the minimum! Imagine if they had 50 people meet the minimum!

Maybe things are different in Scotland.

It was an HR job lol
HR administrator...I can only think things are different in Scotland. I'm not saying too much here...cos people might Cotton on to who I am hahaa

Everyone thinks they can work in HR :-D

Basically, you have set out essential criteria for a post. If they match that then you are saying they are good enough to do the job. The desirable would determine who you would actually like to interview :-D

I've never been in the situation where we have had more than around 35 applications with perhaps 8 or 9 suitable for interview so have been put forward. Perhaps we are just....less...picky!
