    Job Interview Advice Needed, Please!

    Let me get started, I've got an interview next Thursday for a Graduate scheme, to me this could be the first step on the ladder of a proper career. My previous jobs have just been the normal weekend and minimum wage jobs, so you can begin to see why this is a big step up for me. The job seems to encompasses everything i have learnt at University theoretically and practically so it seems like a perfect match, but I'm also VERY aware that anything worth having in life doesn't come easy so im trying to get as prepared as possible.

    Common sense tells me tells me my previous interviews (weekend & min wage jobs) won't come close to this interview (1 hour long with 1 hour verbal and maths testing), so im reaching out for advice. I can and have googled this all day long but what i want is some real advice from real situations from real people. There will be many people there with varying skill and experience levels, so what i really need is the ability to stand out and make the best possible impact i can.

    Thank you for taking the time to read this and i will be grateful for any ounce of advice.

    Background research on the company
    List of questions they could ask me
    List of questions i want to ask
    Got all my documents in order ill be taking, CV Degree etc.
    Practicing for the tests

    from my own experience i find it best to have some pre planned examples . for example you could be asked a question such as give an example of when you have worked as part of a team, or give an example of a difficult situation and what you did? the questioned obviously could be widly varied but if you try and think of as many sceanarios as possible your on to a good start

    You have done everything right. Think of examples to back up the skills/qualities you have.

    Don't overstress about the psychometric testing.

    End of the day... if you have the credentials (they probably wouldn't invite you to interview if you didn't) and are the 'best' candidate on the day, you should be offered the position.

    TBH, the assessors have proabably made their minds up already so do not dwell on it if you don't get the job and have done everything right and have the credentials... often the best people do not get hired because people typically hire people who are less capable than themselves out of fear, or they get the job and their lives are made hell and are not allowed to progress... many companies talk the talk and walk the walk about equal opportunities and stuff but if you look at their top senior posts its usually a case of who you know not what you know... All this means is that you just have to be patient and wait for the right organisation that recognises and respects you for who you are. I hope this helps and best of luck...most importantly do not panic and be honest.

    As above, think of key times they might want you to show "soft" skills, conflict, team leader, team work, over coming problems, talking to people on difficult issues, how you take construction criticism, how you provide constructive criticism etc. etc. Fairly standard things you will probably find a list online.

    Hmmm - well I have the dubious pleasure of being one of those people that interview candidates like yourself.....

    By the sounds of it you have done lots of prep - which is good - BUT .....

    One of the 'key' things that we often look for is/are your own personality. Often we may ask you a question sch as "What do you do in your spare time" This canoften reveal more about the candidate than they would normally want.

    Cautious people stick with the usual answers such as reading, researching, internet Zzzzzzz"

    And the more confident (sometimes mis-placed - it has to be said) opt for the ultra activities that nobodyin their right mind would be doing - but it does give them something to talk about.

    What we look for is / are GENUINE people. Not too pushy, and not too desperate. Their is nthing wrong with having ambition and drive, but it needs to be demonstrated in the right way... Otherwise others can be a little put off etc.....

    You have to think of others not just yourself. You need to find yourown USP (Unique Selling Point)....

    There are / is soooo much on this, but ultimately all you can do is YOUR BEST! (Tell them about this experience if you want!) Letsface it, they could evenlook it up!)

    BE YOURSELF, RELAX as much as possible and BE HAPPY , but not too confident, and not too bashful!

    Flatter when appropriate, and be honest.

    Excellent advice +REP. Im not too worried about the tests as theres right answers or wrong answers no inbetween, but with the interview the things i say, do and how i come across could be taken in anyway, what you have said has give me good focus and direction. THANKS AGAIN!:thumbsup:

    hey, they will always ask questions such as why you have picket that career path. A time you have faced a problem had to take a step back to overcome it. Your greatest achievement outside of academics. Teamwork is always important as is presentation, and be early!! Well best of luck!! What is it for?

    im trying to work on those now lol without trying to sound cocky over confident or boring.
