    jobseekers advice

My son claimed j/s 12 wweeks ago.
Yesterday he had a letter saying they wouldnt not be awarding it to him.
So he called and they said that he hadnt taken in his college cert, and this is why.
Then today they call to say that wasnt the reason, it is because he didnt take in a letter saying we were no longer getting child benefit for him. but noone from J/S asked for this letter. But they seem to think they did.
So he can either appeal or make a new claim.
Is it worth appealing do ya think. Has anyone appealed before.
And before the high and mighty ones comment. Yes he is actively searching for work and is a trained mechanic. 18yrs old and very peed off that he cant find a job.

It's not a big achievement to want to work, it should be expected.

achievement? He's 18yrs old and a trained mechanic? I'd call that an achievement xx

He should get it backdated to when he first applied

and at 18 it's more touchy whether Mum should be chasing this up or he should be doing it himself.

I know when my son needs something, I do it in a flash, no matter he's a man now.

it would have told you everything on the form you needed to send in, and it doesnt take 12 weeks to get a reply

I would appeal, if you include the relevant things this time shouldnt be a problem. Hope he finds work soon

Appeal and phone them EVERYDAY to chase it. Good luck.

Be 100% you've given them ALL the documents they need, keep photocopies and keep a diary of phonecalls (name, time and date).

+1, I would defo appeal and if need be go to your local advice centre to get some advice and help appealing. The appeal process can be drawn out but its worth doing it

oh its been chased up alright every week he has been in to see them. Has made phone calls and been told different stories. The favorite being 'its being processed'.

Clarity im not allowed to chase it up, because they class him as an adult and his claim is confidentially and will not be discussed with a 3rd party.
I have been kicking him up the ass all the way through though.

When my partner got made redundant we had a such a game to try and get any help, we had a mortgage etc to pay, he wasnt paid his last months wage which was due on the day he was made redundant, we had to claim and then wait 2 weeks, then he had to sign again, they pay 2 weeks in arears so we never had a penny for weeks. The job centre did nothing to help us, they never helped with him getting onto a course or look for a job, they just where not interested. We have a massive overdraft we are having to try and sort out because we got no help. My parnter finally got back to work on his own back and they stopped the money the day he started, we where then sent a letter saying we had been paid too much council tax and had £130 to pay even thought they where told as soon as her started his job, they are useless, always lose your claim, give you wrong dates to sign and then make you start your claim again, this is not good enough when we have 4 kids to feed. :x

Hope your son gets sorted soon and gets what is entitled to.
