John Lewis Christmas advert 2017

Found 10th Nov 2017
As expected John Lewis has has jumped onto the politically correctness bus again with their new 2017 Christmas advert.
Last year it was a full black family and this year its a mixed race family.
Its such a shame that John Lewis hasn't got any white families in its Christmas world.
I will say it before anyone says it :
Yes im racist, well i MUST be for daring to say anything against black people, how very dare I.
But actually im not racist im just fed up with adverts being PC, its NOT the people or the black people, the little boy is brilliant and the little girl in last year's advert was a great little actress.
Its the makers of the adverts that wind me up, why cant we have an advert without a mixed race family ang more.
Yes they exist but i swear there are more all black and all white or all chinese families than there are black and white families.
Awaiting the "your racist" remarks!

Jeez. Wish this was all I have to worry about. Didn't realise Xmas was exclusively a "white folk" celebration.

Get a grip and enjoy the season.

If it makes you feel more comfortable, watch the 2015 advert where a white girl and her white sibling send a parcel to the white man on the moon with the help of their white mother.
Failing that, you could always watch the 2014 advert which also features a white boy, his white sister and their white parents. However, I must warn you, it does also star a penguin which has a bit of black on it.
I don't really get why anyone cares about the colour of a person in an advert.

Seems like the sort who would start a sentence with "I'm not racist, but...".

I remember OP from his previous thread where he complained about black people and mixed race families being in ads. Seems to be an obsession.

I've not even seen it and there have been two posts in less than an hour so I assume it has fulfilled its remit by attracting attention. As for race, who really gives a damn? We live in a multicultural society and everyone is allowed to enjoy Christmas. It's only an advert, don't get so stressed about it. It isn't your money and you have the choice to ignore John lewis. Have a happy christmas
Your usernames are the wrong way round.
Op, we've just had the same discussion over breakfast and our thoughts echo yours.
Subsequently we will NOT be shopping in John Lewis this year.
Also interesting the amount of Xmas adverts that do not incorporate any products, just the 'Magic' of Xmas being expressed all the time.

Joke, lighten up.

I do agree though, the advert does NOT represent British life at all.

No child has a bedroom that big.

Why do certain people obsess over the colour of other people's skin?

Get a grip, OP.

Yea you do. So much so you've created a moany, racist thread about it.
Surely, there can't be anything to get upset about having a monster in a young boys bedroom at night without the parents knowledge?

And I agree wholeheartedly with my assessment of that thread and will also apply it to this.

The whole thing is racist. Most other people wouldn't even have noticed it. It's a Xmas advert, full of cheer, goodwill to all men... And women... Whatever their skin colour.

Ever consider they just auditioned better than anyone else?

Here you go

"Last year it was a full black family and this year its a mixed race family.
Its such a shame that John Lewis hasn't got any white families in its Christmas world."

If you can't see that as being racist then I pity you. If all you see is skin colour in a Christmas advert then I pity you. If you somehow feel as though a Christmas advert is oppressing white people then I pity you.

As for freedom of speech... You are free to be a racist. You can say what you like, but that doesn't mean you are free of the consequences for doing so; such as me calling you out for being a racist.

Well if you insist it isn't racism, it must be a rather sad need for attention. What can you possibly hope to achieve, or even learn, in this thread that wasn't comprehensively covered in your previous one a few months ago? Just accept diversity in life.

If i were racist i would have been disrespectful and abusive towards a race or skin colour ?
PLEASE show me 1 sentence or quote that i have posted that shows me using abusive racist language towards a black person.
What it comes down to is I've got the danglies to speak my mind and because i have used the black word in the same paragraph as a negative comment it automatically makes me racist.

You don't need to be abusive to be racist. You just have to display intolerance, or just non-acceptance - which you clearly have.

In this country unless i lead my life according to the pc rules i am automatically racist.
Unfortunately because of political correctness, rascism on both sides, and religious beliefs, companies producing commercials attempt to occupy the unattainable middle ground to please everyone. Some will be up in arms if the advert is predominantly black or white. It is political correctness gone mad, but only because some get offended if they are not included. Look at the Turkey commercial by Tesco, they tried to include everyone, but it is far too cluttered to make any real sense.

I Have to agree with op to some degree. Not so much about the racist thing - I don't believe he is racist but he is bad at explaining his objections.
Personally I'm a bit peed of at or culture and society. We seem to be apologising for something our ancestors did. It appears no other country does this.
