    JSA/Income support

I was wondering how long a claim takes to come through, as im considering seperating and i have 4 boys who are young so would need to claim something till i could find a job or something.

But obviously dont want to be without money for ages, i need to get it all straight first.

    Thanks

can take 2 weeks for payment but you can get a crissi loan to cover you

Thanks, thats not to bad, as i would have child benefit and child tax credits as well to keep me going this seems like the biggest scariest step ever.

Can take a few weeks now cos lots are claiming because of lost jobs, and some are going to sign on soon cos of college finished in likes of Scotland for instance.

f you were getting Carers allowance you would claim Income Support,if not they might want you to sign on JSA,don't know how it works cos I don't get those benefits.

the monly bad thing is you have to do it all ove r the phone

Yeah thats not a problem that doing it over the phone, im not to bothered about claiming IS or JSA i just need to get everything sorted in my head before i say "its over!" to him...it will probably break his heart but i cant help the way i feel

Speak to your local jobcentre as you can claim for some benefits such as JSA/Iincome Support when your lving with someone but not classed as a couple anymore, i.e if you have split up with your partner and still sharing the same household. You would just have to prove that your not a couple anymore.
If you are thinking of seperating from the same household then claim asap as you would get probably get some housing benefit(for rent) and council tax benefit if you on JSA/IS. As someone mentioned it does take a few weeks to come through but is backdated to the date you claim from and you could get a crisis loan to cover you while you wait for it to come through.
In any case speak to either the job centre/citizens advice and they can advise you on your situation.

Im sat here shaking him sitting on other sofa just wanting to tell him...why isnt it dropping off my tongue how i planned it to. If i told him now he could get on train and go to his mums to stay.

Its not easy as we been through so much in the 11yrs together now, i will have to keep my stepson till my hubby finds a suitable place to take him to near to his school but its not a big problem.

I cant sort it out now, its gone far to far for that now on my side i have no feelings at all for him, they are just not there anymore, we have grown apart and i feel in my heart its the end of the road now. I dont want to be stuck with him for just the kids as i always sworn that would never happen.

Thank you everyone, ideally would like to wait till my sons birthday is over next week but i will see.

Sorry to hear that its come to that. You have got to do what's right for you and the boys. Hope it all works out xx

im wishing you all the luck i know how hard it is ive been there if you can phone job centre they will tell how the money side is or go on job centre web page or may be the CAB good luck:)

    This may help amcol ]http//ww…spx

2 weeks maximum - how old are your boys? Are they under 10?

CAB would work out what you are entitled too. Take details of savings etc with you when you go. IS basic amount is £63.50 but then you may get extra tax credits. How about housing? Are you renting - what will the situation be once you separate?

I am very sorry to hear you are separating, hope everything ok and works out ok

Thanks all, did entitled to and worked it out...i know my dad will help me with funds etc if i need to.

My boys are all under 10 yrs old, they are 3, 5, nearly 7 and nearly 9.

Im just stuck on how to let it out, if to hang on and do it when kids are in bed, or wait till they are at school etc arghhhh.

I spilt up with my partner a few years back and found that the first thing i had to do before they would give me income support was to take his name of my bank account, we werent allowed to have anything in joint names. good luck honey you will feel much better afterwards

Top it off now my Xbox 360 died, kids r gutted so am i! grrrr one of them days today i can see it

My ex left me 4 years ago, sent me a text msg to say it was over!!! (we were married!) He was working away and had moved down south a month before me. But I get a text to tell me its over!!!

Anyway back to you amcol - Like Surfbunny said get your own bank account. It can seem like a lot to take in, but its only one call to DWP (application over phone) then interview (work focused interview). With a child aged 3 they would not expect you to work. Then call tax credits as Tinks says and make a claim as a single person, tell them the date you split up (day you or your ex moved out/separated).

Im in tears every few minutes, he is ok and calm but he has told me he feels broken and devastated, we are just staying in the same house until he finds someone else to go, its all big and scary and sometimes think is this worth the hassle, shall i tell him i made a mistake but i know im ok and will get through it.

Ah well done on telling him, thats the biggest and hardest step done now, everything else will gradually slot into place and sort itsself out, good luck xx
