Just built a new pc need help !!

Hi folks,
As the topic says I've just built a new pc and I'm having a few problems..
Here's what I've got installed...

AM2 Athlon 64 X2 4600+
Asus M2v motherboard
2 gb pc2 - 5300 Kingston ram
Asus EN7600GS (512mb onboard) graphics card
160gb Hitatchi SATA drive
Netgear WG311t wireless card

I then installed just xp home and the driver for the wireless card, to access the net.

The problem I have is that for no apparent reason it seems to lock up every now and then. I thought it was a driver problem so I have updated all divers and even the bios but still it locks up.

Can anyone help or sugest a way forward.... ???

Thanks

Does the PC lock up in safe mode. What are you doing when it locks up. Do you have to press the on/off button when it locks or can you still close windows down using CTL+ALT+DEL

Does it lock up when the wireless card is removed??

Haven't tried it in safe mode...
Locks up for sure when I go to ]http//ww…om/ when using explorer but not when using firefox.. locks up intermitantly no other particular operation.
only way of rebooting is on/off or reset..

Hope this helps

Yes but if you remove it and all is fine then you have sussed that the card driver is causing a conflict ..so it's a case of finding drivers that don't cause that conflict..as suggested try loading all the latest drivers from the asus website and go from there.

and maybe throw the wireless card in the bin and buy a hardware ethernet bridge? that way the OS doesn't have to do anything

i've got one spare as it goes. model linksys wet11, let me know if u wanna go that route and i'll sort u out a deal for it

tried reseating the memory and cpu?

have you monitored the temperatures and voltages (various programs available to do this) to see if they're within spec when idle and under load?

also it could easily be to do with hardware acceleration on your gfx card. try lowering this to minimum accelleration, this has solved it for me before

Type your motherboard make into Google and download a motherboard monitoring tool-your comp could be overheating.

Did you use thermal paste on the CPU/heatsink?

Are you overclocking the CPU?
