I have the task of removing any Spiders, usually in a tissue or by hand (just shove them on ) also bees, wasps and all and sundry. Stayed in a rather lovely hotel yrs ago (South Africa), in one corner of the room lived a scorpion, got a fright at first, but used to watch it walk about.
I contacted the British Arachnological Society as we found a suspicious looking spider In our dining room.

They haven't got back to me yet.

Probably, they have been here for 150 years after all! Usual scaremongering by the media!

That's a very good point; what was it - a slow news day, a distraction, or a wannabe author posing as a journo?
There was one hanging right by the button to turn my computer on at work, lucky my computer was on as i left a few tasks running over night so didnt just go for the button without looking like usual in the morning.

Its now dead. (The spider not my PC)

no point, goldmax always runs fastest
I've just found one! I was just cleaning the downstairs bathroom sink and one popped out of the overflow hole thingy, tried getting him but he crawled back in then went upwards so I can't really flush him down?? Any ideas? Don't really want the kids using that bathroom now just in case.
Hairspray and a lighter?

No. That's a dog which someone has put extra legs on to try to make it look like a spider.

It could be a spider with a dog coat on I suppose, but the first option seems most likely.
when you said false, i thought you meant it was a fake. X)

the last thing i would do if i found a spider in my house is to email it to the spider society.

Whatever kind it is , it looks like it can give you a nasty bite
I have thought about the options....
1-hairspray and lighter
2-put the sucky bit of the Hoover over the hole and hope for the best
3- just leave it there and deny all knowledge of it
4-put my finger in the overflow hole and test out how dangerous these things are!

you forgot option 5, get a dog. my dog eats all the spiders so they don't survive long in our house.

Yummy! oO
Hmm I wonder if a hamster would

my OH is an animal lover so would always tell our dog off and tries to stop him eating the spiders whereas i always encourage him to eat them.

the hamster may eat them but as it would normally be kept in a cage, it wouldn't be able to chase them. i don't think hamsters are known for pouncing suddenly on their prey like dogs either.

What dog do you have?
The hamsters a bit dippy at the best of times, we would probably find it wound up in the web for the spiders next meal!
Raid does the job, tried and tested it myself

I have had a labrador spaniel cross and my current dog is a labrador and both eat spiders. Labradors are always hungry which may explain why they eat spiders. they also try to eat flies but don't find themselves fast enough to catch them
I found one of these little buggers tonight... My son found it near the back door...
