Just got a macbook! Help/recommendations etc?

got a macbook 13 inch. Getting used to the keyboard as we speak.

any recommendations of stuff to do on it?

also what does the numbers next o the battery icon mean?

    thanks!

the numbers show the battery life left, you can change it to percent or time or the icon only, left click it and see "show". I bought a macboook 13 last summer, love it. Find it hard using a Win laptop now without pinch zoom etc. I would say, if this is your first mac?, have a mess with some of the shortcuts/options and get used to the folder structure etc. Enjoy too!

its because im adjusting from a larger keyboard. On a full size apple keyboard it is a dream to type on.

I got my first macbook 2 months ago and I love it, I dual booted with windows 7 initially but soon had no use for it and deleted it, osx is great.

Here's a few programs I have found indispensable-:

Cinch = windows snap in like windows 7
Speed downloader & flashgot = Downloader
VLC = media player that will play pretty much anything, quicktime player is crap
You Control Tunes = Allows you to control itunes from your toolbar
Jbidwatcher = Faultless ebay auction sniping app
Remote Connection = great remote desktop client
Unarchiver = will extract anything rar's 7z's etc
1password = kind of like roboform not as good but best I have found for mac

    Oh and firefox.

can I ask where do i download all these applications? Is there like an appstore for macs or is it simply downloading from websites but making sure it is a mac compatible program?

There are various websites you can go to including Apple itself - in addition to that there are also a large number of online technical blogs and forums, which cover commercial, shareware, freeware and open source software that can run on an Apple Macintosh.

Edit - Here's a link from the Lifehacker website; you can filter it for the Mac OS X operating system and you can find articles on software but also how-too guides as well.

You would need to confirm which other operating system you would be using on it, as that has a bearing on what you would be using as a solution going forward.

    Cheers, Scotty Boy!

Make a movie. Make music. Tell everyone else especially the education system which still uses PCs

Don't bother with MobileMe. I get it free but can't say its worth it.

Buy iCreate magazine and get ideas and inspiration.

Probably wanna get iwork - think of it as Word, Powerpoint & Excel but loads more fun.

I could go on and on!
