So I'm wondering, how good is cloud storage? or whtever its called, what is the general consensus of it? Also any particularly good deal around for one? or any other advice for storage? thanks

OK sounds like an idea, im sooo annoyed, I lost 2 years worth of stuff!!! thanks

I use SpiderOak for important documents, the first 5GB are free with promo code worldbackupday.

Are you sure you have lost it all? It's rare for a drive to totally die just like that out of the blue. Can you not get anything out of it at all and try to recover your stuff?

its a western digital, it gets recognized by the PC, but i cannot access files... I looked up in the internet apparently its a stuck spindle, i knew this because it makes a siren noise, westerndigitalexternaldrives.com/wes…ren

exactly like the noise here, from my research on the net , apparently the hard drive has failed, if you know something different do let me know, because yh some stuff that i lost, i wont be able to get again.. cheers

it may just be the enclosure, try taking the drive out of the one its in now,buy a cheap one from ebay and see if it works in there, small outlay for the potential benefit of recovering your data...I think I have a spare case at home which you can have for free but you will need to wait week or so as I am out of the UK at present

There used to be tricks like putting your hard disc in a plastic bag in a freezer, which worked for me and helped me recover data once. No idea if it will help a stuck spindle though.

You might have to consider using a data recovery service to get the data back.

You need backups of backups. Backups offsite and backups in the cloud. Backups everywhere!
