British Gas!

Will swop for my electric bill. Been away for 7 weeks and it's still £488 !!! I'm still in shock.

British Gas!

they will let you go direct debit, but it will be steep for a few months and then be recalculated at a steady rate.

i would d d it cos they don't charge you interest when YOU owe them money. i think you also get a %5 discount for signing up to dd.

we pay a steady amount each month through the year, by the end of the summer we are in credit and by the end of the winter we are in debit, so it evens out. at least there are no nasty surprises.

i have even asked for money to be returned if i am too much in credit, and they have given it back, no quibbles.

Is that amount for 3 Months (90 days) with no debts or over-payments?
Seems very high

Is that just an estimated bill, though?

May be worth doing a meter reading

Defo worth checking uswitch as the other guy says
You get a small discount for paying DD and more if you get your electricity from the same provider also so it's well worth investigating. I've been with Scottish Power for a while now and have been happy with them.

You can go on a fixed tariff also if you think prices are going higher but that's anybody's guess right now. A lot depends on our friends in Moscow.....Just count yourself lucky you don't live in Ukraine, tho you wouldn't have a gas bill to pay ! lol !

british gas are c*** they sent me a bill for £599 for one quarter, i live in 2 bed house, apparantly i had a new meter installed (obviously without me knowing or being present at the time) i have been fighting them for 2 years, now cos i left for a better deal they have given it to a debt agency. I wld stay clear of them and always check your meter reading

No that is acual! They did a reading a few days ago.

ouch i would definately switch I'm with swalec and they are great N power are a waste of space in my opinion.

to be honest i dont think it will matter who u go with prices have gone through the roof,.... i hate all this changing around for providers, more hasttle that its worth, u may save about £100 of ur lucky by switching but thats over the year and tbh at less than £10 a month would we even notice it?? The best deals to be had are online, even sticking with british gas try their online deal and as someone else said going duel fuel (combining gas & electric with the same company) will save u some money too... im dreading my bill comming in, my gas has been on constant !!! xx

BG are notoriously more expensive than most other providers,i only pay 50 a month for both Gas & Electric but then again i only have the heating on for 3 hours a day..lol

i pay by dd and they want £200 a month for a smalish 3 bed house i wouldnt mind but i have the heating on for 4/5 hours a day but they tell me its how much i use for elec /gas oh the joys love to know how they get there prices

That is a lot, I pay £67 for gas & elec for a 3 bed terrace, though I did go on a fixed tariff with Scottish Power last autumn

If you're worried, you should all checkout the last 10 mins of this evenings Watchdog (12th Jan) on bbc iplayer. A lot of people are getting incorrect meter readings by British Gas and other providers which are almost trebling their bills. Scary stuff

bbc.co.uk/ipl…09/

the reason why we are in a credit crunch is not becuase we dont shop in the high street but becuase greedy companies keep hitting us with huge bills so we have less money left to spend on normal goods

Ah, bet you all wish you didn't wear your short-sleeves at home during the winter and keep the thermostat on 20 now.

when people recommend providers, just be aware that providers have different rates for different areas.
sorry if you already know this.

Mine was £374 :-(
