    Of course it doesn't.

Only weak people need to look for some kind of 'higher power' that guides actions and punishes bad behaviour.

It's about as likely as Santa having a good and bad list.

Afraid not - it's just a cheap method of control used on impressionable children.

I'd question whose lap you've been sitting on;-)

So I've heard, except for all those dictators who die peacefully at home or murderers who get away with their crime and live happy lives.

Quick, better start believing in an afterlife so they can be punished there. Good thing is there's no proof required.

karma works in funny ways, eveyone gets there payback one way or the other

The idea of karma isn't necessarily linked to any doctrine or governed by a deity, but it's still nonsense.

If a person has something done to them that is deemed negative, criminal etc by another person and then that person finds something bad happening to them, then it's purely coincidence. That is unless they drowned someone's cat and their brother went and smashed their kneecaps - that's revenge.

There are plenty of murderers, rapists, child molesters etc that get away with their crimes. To say they all received a 'punishment' that is equal in some ways to their original crime is laughable. Guilt, remorse etc isn't a punishment, it's part of the human condition and to say everyone will feel that after their crime is laughable, too.

It really doesn't. It's a childish conceit to make people feel better and avoid the reality that bad things sometimes just happen.

yes, in factI told my child, after that ****er in the white van who chose … yes, in factI told my child, after that ****er in the white van who chose to drive as near the kerb as possible on Friday and splash me and my child in the pouring rain, that karma does in fact exist, we both hoped he would lose his keys and be splashed himself!!!!!!!!!

So what did you do that was so bad you were splashed?

Well it's awful you said that to your daughter, but hey ho.

Maybe a similar thought brought the bad karma that meant you got splashed.

Or maybe you imbue events with significance they don't actually have.

Quick question for those who believe in Karma ; two week old babies that die - anyone want to attribute that to the ultimate in Karmic retribution?

Karma is just a word for a belief, nothing more. like i said i believe we dont get away with anything, no matter how long it takes, you dont have to see it being done to know someone never got away with it, we live a long life

What about a terrorist flying a passenger plane into a building? They're willing to die because it's their belief that the ascent into afterlife will be met with 72 virgins apiece. Death isn't karma to them, so unless there's some kind of punishment after, then the rules clearly don't apply.

Of course, their belief of an afterlife is paradise for their actions, but not to others. Others see their actions as being abhorrent and their justice will be served in hell. Again, another belief, so unless you can somehow prove that one religion is right or viewpoint is right, then karma is null and void.

People seem so willing to overlook coincidence and label it as an imaginary force.

There aren't flippant answers to questions such as this. Such instances are tragedies of epic proportions and do not relate just to the death of one person but have effects on many many others.

Karma is a heart-warming belief to those who have been violated in some way ( even if this violation is just being splashed by a car ). To the mourning and deceased, perhaps even then it is helpful. We all have to find our own way through grief. This path is not mapped out for any of us.

It's the logical conclusion of believing that good and bad are related and balance out.

I think belief can keep you going when your at your lowest. So who cares if others think its rubbish as long as the believer believes.

I personally dont believe in Karma but I do believe that everything happens for a reason. By believing this it helps me make some sense of the madness that sometimes surrounds me.

In this instance you are expecting beliefs to cross over from one culture and religion to another, unfortunately often they do not, or we would share a greater sense of understanding and communication.

Certainly the "terrorist" who kills in a righteous holy war is perhaps in his own mind committing a sanctified act. However, he is still KILLING. Most people agree that the taking of another life or lives is an unforgivable act, except possibly in extreme circumstances.

You either believe all that happens in life is due to some form of chaos... luck, chance, possibility of endless proportions. Or you believe that there is some higher moral force, whether this be fate, destiny, karma or God in any of His guises. Either way these are personal beliefs and individual and no-one can tell you you are right or wrong for either of them.

Exactly what those 19 terrorists thought on 9/11.

People shouldn't act in fear of karma kicking them in the backside.

They should do lovely things because it's lovely to be lovely to one another. Anything else is just bribery.

no it isnt, i dont believe if im good i get something good in return, and dont believe if im bad i get something bad in return, i do beleive we dont get away with anything, which isnt the same thing, i have lost a child because my body let me down, not because im a bad person, or cause i knicked a turkish delight when i was a kid, we also dont need to be punished by anyone as i believe we do this ourselves, just because others dont see doesnt mean it doesnt happen
