Keyboard and mouse keep disconnecting randomly

    Banned
I've been having this issue recently. In the past this did not happen and so I'm out of ideas as to why it's happening or how I could fix it myself.

    - Unticked the 'save power' option on the USB ports on the Device Manager
    - Changed from the USB hub to plugging directly to the computer
    - Checking for Windows 10 updates
    - Restarted the system

Nothing of that fixed the issue.

It's pretty annoying that it disconnects for a second and then connects again.

It's running fine as usual, only problem is the disconnecting. Task Manager looks normal and KIS hasn't brought up anything suspicious.

    wired or wireless?

Have you checked the support site of the mobo maker for updated drivers...

Will do but it used to work perfectly with simple plug and play.

Has windows 10 'updated' to a driver that is not preferable to one provided by the manufacturer...

Google your mobo and or make and model with the problem to see if anyone else has had the same problem on the forums...

Dodgy USB connection @ hub? (either cable or the connector)
I've got similar with a cheapo 4 port USB hub - if it happens too often Windows throws up "unrecognised USB device error"
I need to find another decent USB hub at the right price but if it does screw up really bad and won't fix I have to go to device manager - show hidden devices - uninstall all USB hub & keyboard/mice drivers and restart

A lot of issues with the last round of Micro**** updates, and people used to laugh at me for not wanting a free OS.

At least you can get on line to post (for now), thousands are getting internet issues due to the latest update randomly breaking DHCP.

Much better using a powered hub. I have 3 bought via Aliexpress. Orico make 4, 7 or 8 ports. Not cheap but build quality is fantastic. Can buy from Amazon as well, just search Orico. Read page carefully and choose ship from China and UK plug.

copy and paste link above - works with Chrome.

Not guaranteeing this will solve problem, rather strange one, never come across this before. I find Windows 10 to be very good on drivers etc. Any chance you could borrow another keyboard to try. Only about £20 for a decent cordless keyboard and mouse. Have been many links on this site.

Even when connected directly to the machine it still randomly disconnects. Is it possible to reinstall Windows 10 while keeping all files and programs as is?

What motherboard are you using? I have a MSI Z87i and found that occasionally, the USB ports on the rear panel would stop working. I found that this only happened when all 4 rear USB ports were in use. Since removing unused devices, I haven't had it happen again...

Are you using any USB3.0 devices near the wireless adapter ?

Do the basics first and build from that - " In the past this did not happen.." PSU Age? Check specs (in particular 5v rail) against a multi meter (not software program or BIOS) load up your usb ports and check again - I use a usb cable with the end cut off and stick the multi meter on the bare wires when testing servers. Alternatively unplug everything usb and just run your kb for a bit and see if you still get disconnects.

I'm using a notebook/laptop Asus X453M which isn't really old at all so this shouldn't be happening. Also, I re-installed Windows 10 yesterday but the problem remains. It doesn't disconnect as often, though.

Wouldn't mind doing a format install but that would take a few hours to get everything back to normal after the installation.

Turns out it was a malfunction with the USB mouse itself. No longer an issue.
