is it right parents can be jailed for this? i mean, how can you physically make sure your child attends school every day.

Yes you can, but usually only after many fines, and I've even known of parents walking their 16 year old kids into school and sitting with them in some lessons to make sure they are there, so there are varying ways of doing it

My guess is you take them, you watch them go in the school gate and you hang around until they've registered, then it's the schools problem. Or you bring them up to respect their elders, and authority, and do what they're told.

Oh if only it was that simple ! My son loved primary but was bullied at secondary school and ended up hating it - I have lived through many days of physically trying to drag a 15 / 16 year old who was taller & bigger than me from the car, kicking and screaming - absolutely heartbreaking and sometimes there were days when I just couldn't face it and let him stay off even though I knew he wasn't ill. His first secondary school were absolutely useless "we don't have bullying here" and although the second one did their best to help, the damage was done and he never really settled in. He did go to college after though and is now working

But surely you could raise your child to your best ability, but how can you stop them mixing with people in secondary etc.. people change depending on who they are surrounded with. Also if you work etc, taking them to school and seeing they get into class may not be an option.

Parents are responsible for their children so yes, it is only right.

Punishment should be delivered from the parent once the school makes them aware of the truancy.

what do you do if you try everything? i mean complete grounding-to the point of removing any clothes but school ones (cos they take a bag and change when they truant)
they cant tell you why they do it they just do..have good friends at school and are a high flyer with ease..
and if you enforce further they run away from home?

and we are talking a child who had respect but for some reason school at 14 didnt suit..

A parent would only be jailed in very extreme circumstances.

If they are working with the authorities, then they would obviously escape punishment.
