    kind regards

what's with all this "kind regards" as a sign off from every man and his dog on emails these days? It's as if everyone has been brainwashed to use this most inappropriate term, what's wrong with thank you? or cheers? or nice one? or sort it ok? or anything you care to write except the god awful " kind regards" it's as bad and as inappropriate as "lol".

It all depends on what the email is regarding really. If it was between two friends, then "kind regards" is a bit odd!
But if it's a more professional email perhaps between people for work related reasons, then it's perfectly acceptable.

I always find "Yours relentlessly" grabs peoples attention...

I tend to sign off emails to female clients with:

    "Forever yours"

well I am talking work here, it's not acceptable because it's not normal speak. If I were engaged in conversation face to face or over the telephone neither party would utter the nonsense that is "kind regards" would they?

...but would you not say "pass on my regards" if you were not talking directly to that person?

Anyway, you dont say "yours sincerely" before you hang up. It is just etiquette etc.

Well, it's just polite. If it's a formal email between two people with no more than a professional, working relationship then it's fine.

What's more worrying is the decline in our language where people think it's more acceptable to use "LOL" "cheers m8" etc etc

The standard of letter/email writing today is appalling. I was speaking with the Brasserie Manager of the Malmaison hotel last week and he sent every letter with a capital A whilst using it in a sentence, spelt possibly "possibley" and a lot of the words didn't even have spaces between them!!!!! I seriously thought he was a bit simple!!! If you're no good at spelling, use a spell check, it's not hard!
OP, why not try and catch people out? End your emails with "yabba dabba doo" or something.

I occasionally add it to a reply but rarely use it myself. Regards is all anyone usually gets. Most emails I send from work are not of a kind nature.

I think to sign off "Kind Regards" is quite nice actually; I always sign my PMs "Kind Regards" to members I'm not too familiar with; it's friendly but yet remains quite formal. If it's a member I "know" then I usually sign off with something else.
