Knee pains after doing karate

I do karate and today we had a class with some complicated moves, and I heard my knee snap. It doesn't hurt, but it feels weird somewhat. Hard to describe but when I bend my legs, there's a slight discomfort there. Just a discomfort, it really doesn't hurt at all.

I'm just wondering.. common sense says take it easy, but can it be more problematic than that? I hope it doesn't affect me long term.. would hate to give up the karate.

I don't know.. thoughts?

any swelling or other tenderness?

Was it a popping sound? A year ago I was playing football and heard a pop, at first I thought nothing of it and went back the next week and it happened again, I later found out that I had torn my knee ligaments and havent played since as it could happen again, I now need an operation! you should definitely get it checked out, its surprising it didnt hurt though, I was in pain for a good few minutes. Knee injuries are the most common in sport, a number of things could have happend though, but make sure you go and get it checked out and not think nothing of it. I always worry I wont get to play football again

No, no swelling, nothing. Just now I tried bending and straightening both legs. There was a popping sound on the first few tries, but none afterwards. The discomfort was only felt when I bend my legs AND put some weight on it.

Scary! Will get it checked out just in case though. Thanks mate.

I would get it checked out just in case as the knee is quite an important piece of kit, obviously! Not sure what the popping sound is... I'm sure a doc will tell you you're fine, but better to be safe....

Make sure you do, I left it too late and I really regret it now, so don't let yourself think its ok just because you want it to be (like i did). Hope all goes well

Try NHS Direct, it might help http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/help/

Thanks, I tried it. But it wasn't as much as pain as a discomfort, and all of the questions suggest I'm in a great deal of joint pain.

Will see GP though.

Get it seen to and i would advise taking it easy until you know what damage you have done.

I am only 24 but have been playing football since the age of 5 and suffer with my knees terribly.

When i was 16 i started getting a pain on the front of my left knee, where the tendon joins the patella. It gradually got worse, so i saw a specialist when i was 20 who operated on me, repaired the tendon and ligaments. 3 years on and I still have the pain in my left knee but my right knee is absolute agony with exactly the same symptoms. After the op I gave up football, but when i was 22 decided to start back playing and i play through the pain, i cannot walk for days after and i should probably give up the football, but i cant. After football on a saturday I cannot walk down the stairs without holding onto something, i have to push myself up from my seat. Its horrendous..and all this at 24!
I'd had enough 3 weeks ago so went to my GP, so i am now on the waiting list to see a specialist.

your knees are important so look after them

ouch!

You've done some exercise and now your joints are aching a bit. Your first reaction was the correct one.
