Kodi box that can be controlled with Logitech Harmony Ultimate One

Thinking about getting a Kodi box as a gift for my parents, I don't really know much about them though. Don't really want to spend more than £50 and I want one that can easily be controlled with Logitech Harmony Ultimate One so that the whole family can use it easily.

I don't mind if it takes some setting up because I'll do that for them, but after that ease of use is probably the main thing because they're not the most technologically minded!

get a raspberry PI 3 from the pihut
Most can be as they have IR. The Nexbox A95X (S905X 2GB ram version) is really good. For best performance boot Libreelec on it instead (it runs significantly better), it will out perform the RPi and is cheaper (under £30) and neater.

I know that's probably the cheapest option, but isn't it going to be the least user-friendly?

I had the original Pi and created a music player from it, but I remember it being a pain and things not always working first time. Would the Harmony play nicely with it as well? Ideally I'd want something that was a bit more ready for action straight out of the box.

Thanks guys, the Nexbox looks good.

Would an Amazon Fire TV box be significantly better?

No, Kodi on Android isn't great, it works but it lacks proper support for things like surround sound and changing the refresh rate to match your film (which can give micro stutters), it also doesn't perform as well as it could. For best results you want Libreelec which is only available on amlogic devices (and Raspberry Pi's/PC's). Also the firestick doesn't even have google play and amazon can block 3rd party app installation at any point.

The A95X is under £30 but it really is worth putting Libreelec on it.

Brilliant, thanks for taking the time to explain.

Do you know if I'll be able to use the Logitech Harmony One with Libreelec? If so, sounds exactly what I was after.

Why add an extra hop though and send the commands via your TV and HDMI instead of direct, and it won't have as many commands supported.

One you don't require the extra commands for normal operation and two it's built in so no need to install ir drivers on certain builds.
