Kwik Fit and front brake pads replaced

I was told today by Kwik Fit that my front pads and rear brake drum and shoes where going and needed to be replaced. So i opted for getting the front pads changed.

Now looking on some service documentation from 31/10/2007 I have noticed that front n/s and o/s pads and discs were replaced now since that day the car has done 13600 miles mainly urban with some motorway. Since i bought the car it has done around 350 miles all urban.

Now i'm puzzled that my front pads have gone so quickly 1 year and 18 days given the example from Kwik Fit web site on replacing pads.

This car as not been used for rally driving.

This information below from Kwik Fit:

"Different driving patterns have a dramatic effect on how often your brakes need servicing. For example, a set of brake pads could last up to 60,000 miles or more on a car driven mostly on the motorway, may last only 25,000 or 30,000 miles or less on the same vehicle driven in busy city traffic".

Were they dealer fitted or cheap replacement parts from a backstreet garage?

    Nope it was Kwik Fit.:x

Should i demand my money back?

depends are you a heavy late braker

There's a lot of dodgy garages out there. I'd be amazed if you needed all that work done in less than 14k miles unless you're into street racing. We took my wifes car to the local Autocentre and had similar advice for my Wifes Modus with 27k miles even though I could see the pads had plenty of wear left. I'd check with a trustworthy garage before you get the work done.

Nice and slow is how I do it. :-D

    What car do you have?

If your disks are warped or scored they wear out the pads much more quickly - did they give you the old ones that were replaced?

No this would of been before i bought the car only having it for 2 months. I noticed the brake pads were replaced last year only when i got back home and checked some documentation that came with the car.

Yes i'm a first time car buy and a novice with cars:whistling:

it all depends on driving style. my dealer fitted pads on my focus needed changing after about 16,000 miles. my father in law can easily get 40,000 miles from his . a friend of mine is lucky to get 4,000. it is literally down to your driving style. if you slow down gently and use the gears to slow then you'll get more mileage. if you drive normally you'll get less and if you're a late breaker you'll get even less.

Does your log book show the previous keeper as either L Hamilton or M Schumacher?

I guess they were probably cheap pads or dodgy discs and could be combined with poor driving.

However you stated that "You opted to have the front brake pads done". I would guess that their was probably nothing wrong with the ones they replaced.

Front brakes usually need replacing more often than rear brakes, I guess your rear brakes weren't replaced last time round so probably needed doing.

I'll pop into another Kwik Fit first thing in the morning and let them check the brakes and see what they have to say. Before producing my evidence.:whistling:
