    Ladies Cycle Helmet

Haven't got a clue about these, seems lots of choice out there. It's for a present so don't want anything cheap but poor on quality/safety.. or expensive but OTT.
Can anyone recommend good deal on one of these either online or instore?
    Thanks

Ideally the person it's for should be able to try it on first to make sure it's a good fit.

Have a check at some of your local Lidl's. Some of them have cycle stuff starting next week. Oddly fragmented though. 1 store slightly over a mile away, another, 1 mile in a different direction doesn't have it??

Anyway lids were £9.99 (I think) and looked pretty fair. I liked the fact that they have a rear light attached as standard!

I got one from Asda last year for about £15...

    Thanks everyone, good point queenlush!
My question perhaps should have been to ask if there is there an industry standard for safety ratings ie Amazon have helmets from £9 to £70. Apart from branding there must be serious quality differences?

From memory there are 2 standards commonly applied to bicycle helmets. The UK / EU one, which all helmets sold in this country must meet and the Californian one, which is much stricter, so is sometimes used to show a 'safer' helmet.

But basically yes there is an industry standard and yes all must meet it. In terms of what your money buys fo the expensive one...

    Less weight
    Looks nicer
More ventilation (important if you cycle for a long time)
    Better \ quicker fitting
    Crash replacement

Thanks for info evilmonkey. Taking onboard the fitting point queenlush made, I might just get some gift vouchers for Halfords or similar and let her go herself and try before she buys.

If you can go to a bike shop rather than Halfords you'll stand a better chance of getting a lid that fits!

Evilmonkey is absolutely right - the European standard (EN1078) must be met for the helmet to be sold here. A more stringent US standard called CPSC is also met by many of the helmets available. In practical terms, they are all going to help, but how well it fits is key to it doing its job!

Thanks for the info Duggie. In the end I did in fact get her gv's from her "local" cycle shop and she said the guy there told her the same as u just said - i.e. it's the fit that is imperative to get right as a badly fitting one offers really poor protection. She is now kitted out.
