ah thats the other i know, i know that so not to send to anyone incase offence is taken

definatley NOT lillies! funeral flowers and the pollen stains. oh and because im allergic to them

    def carnations and roses

I prefer getting a real nice plant now when sending something - its something that will last and you can get some gorgeous ones.

Flowers - hate carnations and daisies. But when you receive a bouquet it really is the thought that counts!! Its so lovely to receive something like this as just shows that person appreciates you

    my mum said tulips

I love lillies - love the strong scent and yes they are used at funerals - but also at weddings too!

ah i love lillies but never send as im afraid they would offend

I like roses , also lilys but as other people have suggested a lot of people dont like lilys , i would go with a nice selection of various colourful ones to be safe tbh

I think a nice selection would be a good choice.Bit of everything in them usually roses lilys carnations. Can't go wrong with that.

just get her one massive assorted bouquet

Cala lillies are beautiful, my absolute favourite, I had them for my wedding

    Gerbas, colourful & longlasting,

Tulips are pretty and tend to cheer you up

My nan hated lillies, i dont like the smell of them plus the yellow/brown bud bits get everywhere and stain

Roses die quickly, and tend to look tatty in general

Carnations i find are too cheap looking

why not ask the florist to put a few diferent flowers in?

    thanks for all suggestions

I don't know if you can get at this time of year but i bought the wifey a huge bunch of sunflowers a couple of months back and they were beautiful.

Sadly there are very few flowers that have any scent anymore. Recently bought myself small buch of fresias, no smell unless you had your nose in them. Only a few years ago a small bunch would scent a whole room.

So now we buy purely for the visual efffect because there is no longer any fragrance to fresh flowers.

I hate carnations but love lillies.

At the end of the day, if anyone SURPRISED me, even with a bunch of weeds then I would love it.

So, is that what matters, the unexpected gift ?

Birds of paradise are my faves

    I think M & S do lovely arrangements.
Go in there and choose some that YOU like to give her.

Go to your local florist and ask her to make up a bouquet - state what you want to spend - in your sis in law's favourite colour.

If they are any good, they will use the best freshest flowers and foliage - the actual varieties of flowers aren't very important, but chrysants are good at this time of year and last for ages.

At the risk of outcry and dissing the 'local' retailer which is not my intention
I would get a nice mixed bunch from a supermarket - In my experience they last longer that the florists as the turnover is faster - I think they all have a guaranteed lastability date and there is a good selection. Even reduced ones from waitrose garage when they go down to 10p a bunch last ages.
My ex used to buy me roses from the florist but they go over sooooo quickly and are hugely expensive -however that was a long time ago as no one buys me anything anymore :"(
