lake district break for 9 adults 3 kids, need help

Looking for a short break to the lake district with 9 adults and 3 kids, any one be kind enough to point me in the best places to look, cottage, lodge, farmhouse etc either end of may 2011 or july 2011.
Where is the best scenery if any ones been, like walking, cycling, kids activity etc, any help appreciated.

IMO the real lake district is off the beaten track, over towards Wastwater. It is another 2 hrs from Windemere (tourist coaches!) area but worth it, fantastic scenery, no crowds. But you might be looking for something less isolated, try Grasmere area, or even the area called little Langdales is lovely.

We have always stayed on Youth Hostels, always tucked away in great locations and ideal for kids. Families get their own room, although it is bunk beds so not popular with adults.

Lots of cottages to rent, try new paper adverts etc (Sunday Times). Lots of companies online. Also National Trust do a range of cottages also. Good luck

Depends on how old your kids are really. For younger kids (who I find are less inclined to walk up hills), I'd suggest either Grizedale Forest (south) or Whinlatter. (North) (Whinlatter is where the Osprey centre is, if that's of any interest)

Grasmere, as suggested, is lovely and is pretty much the centre of the Lake District. (although I would guess it will be pricey) From there you can easily visit 2 or 3 places in a day.

South Lakes/ Windermere(Bowness) has the Beatrix Potter visitor centre, and her house - among other things (like an aquarium, etc)

Keswick (North) has plenty of attractions in the town (especially if you like pencils! ) and some good walks/drives just out of town. (Borrowdale Valley) - Travel up to Watendlath, you'll pass Ashness bridge and there's a really good viewing spot (but be careful if the kids are very small - it's a long drop!)

thanks for the heads up looking into this, i guess it will be pricey because we can only go during school breaks,

We have used these before when going away as a large group, some fantastic houses available and not to expensive when splitting the bill.
