Anyone experienced about who could give me their honest opinion on this laptop please.

It would be for general home use by a 14 year old. Will not need to be used for high end gaming though.
Would need to be able to cope with digital photography, music, msn and the usual teenage stuff.

Many thanks for any input

It certainly looks like it would handle all you want to do with it, but (as you said yourself) the latest games would certainly be out with the graphics capability: Geforce 7000M, the specs of which are ]here It looks like it rates just below a Geforce 6100 card, but higher than a FX5200.

You also get a free 60-day trial of Office Home and Student 2007, but I believe you can get the full version for about £40 so that would be really useful for schoolwork and stuff so worth thinking about. Plus the integrated webcam and microphone makes it sound ideal for a teen, lucky teen!

It looks to be a good budget laptop. It depends to what extent you want to do digital photography because as has been mentioned above, the graphics specs are not high and digital photography does actually require the same specs as games.
Its problem really is that the memory cannot be increased on this one and Vista along with your requirements will mean it may struggle a little.

This Dell is another option, the below spec comes in at £360 but the memory is upgradable and it is a Core 2 Duo. 3megs of memory and integrated webcam would take you to £420.

I thought you had to be registered at a college or uni to get student software.

Are school children included ?,obviously I know they are students, but didnt think microsoft included them

Yes school kids count. Any student of any age in any learning program.

No need to spend so much if its just for basic stuff for a 14 year old. £199 here:-

Thanks good people for all your views and help.
Was for a friend and after a good 3 hours of searching and deliberating she went for it !!

Taking into account the clubcard points, printer, quidco etc etc it looks to be a pretty good deal (I hope)

Anyway thanks again and rep been given where appropriate
