    Laptop advice (web and excel)

    Hi,

I am urgent need of a basic laptop, it will be primarily be used for web browsing and excel, and ideally be able to connect to a PC monitor.

Appreciate this is a deal website, but require it ASAP so happy for it not to be a great deal.

    Thanks in advance.

sorry was more after ideas of which latptop to buy, eg: chromebook, HP etc. Was just pointing out the point it didn't have to be a great deal.

go into your local currys pr pc world or something similar and buy whatever the cheapest they have that you can take away there and then - whatever you get will satisfy your criteria - unless you can think of more!
Of course, you will need a licence for MS Excel which costs money - browsers are free. You could download and install Libre Office for free which will do most Excel stuff.

Before you go, take note of the monitor connections - not all laptops will necessarilly be able to connect to every monitor. EG - VGA is a bit old hat these days whereas HDMI is more modern - but no good to you if your monitor does not have an HDMI input.
you either spend £150 or £180 or more if you budget will stretch

My monitor only has VGA (and some PP port), so guess it would need to have a VGA port then.

your guess is correct but you could buy an hdmi to vga converter either later or at the same time. if you buy at the same time insist they demo it working

Ok thanks, this seems to tick the boxes (assuming the HDMI to VGA works)

Lenovo T420 refurb on eBay? Then buy a Display port to hdmi/whatever connection you have on your monitor.

That laptop comes with ChromeOS, not Windows, so you won't be able to install windows programs like Microsoft Office or LibreOffice.

given your ASAP criteria that seems a reasonable choice
