will have to look into this, where do you buy the adapter and are they expensive:)

depends on the laptop, what do you have? a genuine one can cost a fair bit, if its under warranty you can get a replacement that way, but theres always third party options which are usually cheaper.

i got my last one from here ]http//ww…php for just over £20 with a one year guarantee and had no issues at all.

Just a question tho do you have a light on your laptop which turns on when you plug the power in? and if so does it go on or not, if it doesnt could well be the power supply, if it does then you might be looking at a hardware error

just google the part number on your power supply. plenty of places sell them, depending on make and model etc will depend on what price is offered. you may be lucky and get one for around £20

If its the adapter, then you should still be able to use your laptop's battery. Unless you saw the battery status on the laptop saying low battery the last time you used it, then I don't think its the adapter.

you might have been running off the battery without realising if the power supply is faulty and hence the power just run out, but do you have a light go on when your power is plugged in?

No light on the computer and the light on the power adapter goes out when it gets plugged into the laptop

If the screen goes dark all of a sudden then most likely, you were using the remaining battery power and thus, the is a fault in the power supply. But I still have doubts since unless your laptop shut off unexpectedly last night, then there should still have some power left in the battery for you to start up your laptop.

do you mean there simply isnt a light, or that no light goes on?

most laptops have some indication to show when power is plugged in

what brand/model laptop do you have?

ok i think i found the service manual online and according to that it should have a set of 4 lights on the bottom right below the keyboard, and the second one in from the left is the battery indicator.

the service manaul says the following:

Battery Indicator
The Battery indicator light tells you whether the Lithium-Ion battery is charging or is already
fully charged.
• If you are charging your battery, the Battery indicator lights remains on even if your notebook
is shut off.
• If there is no battery activity, the power adapters are not connected, or the power switch is
Off, the Battery indicator will also be off.

so basically if you have any power in your battery the light should be on.... or if you plug the power it in should go on, do you have these lights and if so does anything happen when u plug the charger in?

might be best to abandon this already but if u cant , 3 possible units at fault battery, external psu and internal power distribution board on and to be safe and sure backlight on screen
try and borrow the first 2 to see if helps
seen a lot of these cheaper laptops use the battery as a main power source and simply cant function without them so removing it may make no diff.
if u cant borrow any of those items chuck it into pcworld for a quote, get it in writing and hold them to it
