    Laptop died, any help appreciated

Just got back from holidays the other day, laptop booted but after being switched off won't boot any more. Elminated charger as tried it with something else. Won't boot with battery d/c/removed. Power light comes on but pressing power button it goes off for 5 - 10 seconds then comes back on. Doesn't load bios or nothing. Competent with desktops but not a clue with laptops. Suspect it's the Mobo and therefore uneconomic to repair (it's a core duo t20801.73Ghz 1gb ram 1 stick 80gb HDD). Would it make sense to sell on the re-useable bits? I've tried a local omputer shop but he wants £25 to look at it.

Is there any noise coming from it? I'm asking because it is possible that the HD has failed.

Not a thing, it charges and the battery tells you so but no noise coming from it at all

    strip and sell

    time for an upgrade

not worth the hassle of repair as something else would probably go wrong soon after due to sods law:thumbsup:

Thats what I thought, battery is pants on it anyway 45+ mins. May look at a netbook. Just bought a new tower and monitor before holidays

I had a look around Google (forums) and it could be any number of things ranging from HD to Motherboard failure. Someone suggested making sure everything is still in place if the laptop has been jolted, by taking off the bottom covers. Also removing the memory and cleaning the contacts seems to have worked for one person.
I has a Sony laptop that did the same thing, but it eventually came on after loads of attempts to get it started. It turned out to be a faulty on/off button.
I hope you get it sorted.

what make is the laptop, what model number?

i might be interested in purchase, but ofcourse a sal would have to be agreed on the fs/ft threads

One of them things, my 1st laptop (apart from work ones) it's kinda put me off getting another, just like the mobility/ease of having a laptop.

i paid £800 abut 5 years ago for my old one, and its been dying for 3 of them but finally given up on it as everything was failing, i really wasnt gonna go with another lappy but the though of a desktop isnt nice, when yuo restricted to one place to use it, so got the acer from argos for £400, just hope it last a few years, also acer extra warranty is cheap

I've got a good spec desktop, think I'll look towards a cheap netbook for out and about etc.
