Hi there,

Currently I have a Sony Vaio VGN-N31S laptop, Intel Core 2 Duo 1.66GHZ, 1GB Ram and 100gb hard drive.

I'm looking for something to last me for the next few years, so ideally a faster laptop with a better processor and ram and preferably blue ray/HD.

As I have not been in the loop on laptops for a while, what should I be looking for in a good performing laptop and what brands? I'm looking at spending about £400 or so, give or take.

To be fair I haven't been too impressed with Sony, so wouldn't mind a different brand.

Hopefully one of you can reccomend me a good laptop or point me in the right direction

Yeah, the Acer model looks a good one to me, is the company decent?

Bought the B450 remotely overseas last week. 450 series are 14" and 550 series are 15" screens. B and G prefixes are seemingly region specific in many cases. I got a B450 at around £305.

Similar priced Acers were lower reviewed and had some things such as fingerprint readers which I do not need and only makes more things to go wrong.

Decent spec and will do the job for a while. Not a toy, not a game machine, internet and some WP and Excel stuff. Pictures of the kids etc. No need to go overboard on features and performance you will never use but have to pay for.
