Take it back. Don't mess about with it.
Plug an external monitor in first, then remove any incriminating evidence, then take it back. Assuming the monitor works....

But seriously, does it beep or anything? May be a dodgy psu, hard drive loose etc.
You need a new hard drive. Try to get 3 year warranty with the manufacturer next time

Unlikely, If it needed a new HD then the screen would most certainly still turn on and display a message about a missing HD or something.

They usually display a blank screen when faulty ram, processor, motherboard etc.. Are there any blinking lights? or lights?

Which make/model of laptop?.

You should still take it back to Argos with receipt and they'll have to send it for repair or replace it, They'll often tell you to contact the manufacturer but your warranty is with Argos not the manufacturer.

Good idea to plug into external monitor. This will give you an idea of what your dealing with. Off you get any output then it's the screen (or loom to the screen) of no output then the list of possible faults hours on, and on, and on.....
Wouldn't be a Lenovo would it? if so common fault.
Normal thing to do is to reset the cmos settings. This is normally the case with most systems not booting.

you could try to turn it on in safe mode and see if it is the screen that is broke.
There are things you can safely do so long as your manufacturer supports them. Dr Google will help you

If it is a Dell, press F12 immediately you power on and you will go into Diagnostic mode. Its easy to follow the prompts and find out if its the box or Windows (all tests OK = a Windows problem)

Ask Google about Boot Hardware diagnostics for your machine (manufacturer and model)

Or a faulty hinge which has broken the screen connector (blank screen)
Before doing anything hectic, if you hear the laptop booting and running the fans and hard drive (if it has one) then the issue could simply be that you've pressed the key combination to temporarily switch off the display. Usually this is the most obvious problem when users complain that they're unable to access the screen. *Type in the Model of your laptop into a search engine or go to the manufacturer to see what combination keys are required to be pressed to re-activate the panel. *

*As you've already posted the question I expect you have access to another PC or tablet.
