Laptop Recomendation £2000

Looking for a new Laptop.

I currently have a Dell 1710, which apart from being heavy, and lasting 30 mins off mains, is an ideal laptop for my needs.

I work from my laptop and develop software, so high performance is a must.

I am flat rate VAT registered, which means I can only claim VAT back on purchases totalling £2000; so I am either looking for a laptop under £1500, or (just) over £2000.

Any suggestions?

around 2g's prob get a water cooled bad boy for that lol.
wouldn't spend more than a grand tbh for what you need.

It's good to go looking around for something up to a price rather than the other way.
Anyway, for £2028.24 including delivery there is this:

I've customised - as above -the M17 (quite a bit!) to get an excellent overall specification that, funnily enough, just tops out over the VAT theshhold.

I wish there is still that SLi 8800m GTX awesome M1730 dell deal, at less than 1080 quid. though that devalued M1730 alot for myself; now paying nearly 1800 quid for the dame the top end XPS seems just rip off...:?

Thanks for the advice. Thought I would post an update. I have just bought...

Dell Precision M6400

Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Quad QX9300 2.5GHz

Keyboard Options: Illuminated Keyboard - English
Memory: 8GB
System Drive: 500 MB SATA (2 x 250GB) with Free Fall Protection

Optical Drives: 8x Dual Layer Burner (DVD±RW, CD-RW)
Wireless Network Card: Wireless LAN b/g/n Mini Card
Sound Hardware: Internal High-Definition Audio with Surround Sound
Warranty: 3-Year NBD On site

I expect to get about 1 1/2 hours out of the battery, but since I ussually plug in to power i dont see this as a problem for me. The Quad Core and 8GB was a huge positive, and the 1920 x1200 display was mandatory. I also like the 3 year on site warranty.

Price : £2050 delivered + VAT, but I get that back.
