    Laptop Screen

Hi the screen on my Hp 6720 has broken. I was just wondering will any 15.4 inch screen work on it or do I have to buy another 6720 screen. Thanks Ben

Wouldn't it be great if all parts from laptops fitted eachother? Unfortunatey those pesky computer manufacturers want our cash badly and have sewn up most of that market by making their parts slightly different from others.

The best thing you can do is to go on a laptop screen site (google + laptop + screen) and search for a replacement.

Sometimes if you're lucky a list of compatible screens will come up and hey presto several machines use the same screen.

I found a replacement screen in the states for a Dell and it cost me £100 delivered. But the customs charges were £30. I'm stil refusing to pay and I bet fedex get bored before I do.

What wrong with the screen? Is the laptop under warranty and is the fault covered by it?

You can check the warranty here by puting in the model and serial numbers from the label on the base of the laptop. www12.itrc.hp.com/ser…475

Theres no way you will receive the screen before you pay the tax on it! By the time you get it it will have been chucked around the depot and more than likely damaged, you will then have to return it for them to send a replacement for which They will apply the charges again before you receive it

    Big mistake I think!

Hardly, fedex say they paid the tax so it's a matter between them and me now. I dispute the claim as a replacement screen should be tax free. You'd really have to see their letter and the way they have scaled the charges to understand. I know ir'a tempting from behind your screen to assume you know it all but clearly you're at a disadvantage here.

I've had some advice from people who have seen the paperwork and they've advised me that I am in fact correct although few people get the chance to argue as the items are usually held until the tax is paid..

Not in the slightest, all you said was that there was a bill for duty to be paid, as the normal procedure is for the bill to be paid before goods are delivered that was the natural conclusion, given that your first post about it omitted this crucial fact(probably deliberately so you could give this response).

Can't quite see why a replacement free should be excempt from import tax. Although of course fedex made a mistake in not retaining the item in the first place you still owe them the tax and i guess if you don't pay they will just pass it on to their debt collecting agency.

As I said they will get bored before I do. Apologies for not keeping you two in the loop with full infomation. I can arrange for you to receive full details of all my posts including extra information so you do not make fools of yourself in the future. Somehow I still think you'll manage it.

I think I'll stick with the advice I've been given by an expert on the payment for the fedex charge and not some internet 'know all' though. Thanks
