Which do I want? Am looking at buying a cheap Dell XPS for sixth form (i.e. games) but would like it to be fairly future proof so I can keep it for uni in just over a year so am looking for it to be fairly good. Is this the direction to be going in?
Always had dell, and would like to stick with them, mainly because I can upgrade the battery

The XPS are brilliant machines (although mine ends on ebay tomorrow!)

Get 32Bit Vista Ultimate with it and you will be fine for a few years

I've always preferred the 64 bit Vista, seems to be a little more stable

vista aint really future proof either thank god (but nothing is)

On a laptop, you should be pretty safe with 32 bit.

You only need 64 bit if you have over 4GB of RAM. A laptop will probably only be able to hold two 2GB modules anyway.

vista is apparently being superseded in the next couple of months by Windows 7

as the man said you wont need 64bit on a laptop as there is no point unles you have loads of ram
32bit will only address 3Gb ram (or there abouts)
