Lawyers claim anti-social trousers ban on teenager is pants

Just saw this story in the Metro on my way into work this morning. Basically an ASBO regarding this guy has been wirthdrawn regarding his Hoodie / can't pull his trousers up appearance because it infringes his human rights.

Putting the ruling aside ('cos to be honest, that's not why I've posted this), but is there something mentally wrong with someone wanting to dress like this?

The ruling would have stopped Ellis Drummond, 18, ‘wearing trousers so low beneath the waistline that members of the public are able to see his underwear’ and sporting any clothing ‘with the hood up’.

But the proposals were withdrawn after prosecutors met Drummond’s solicitor ahead of an appearance at Bedford magistrates’ court.

During the hearing on April 27, District Judge Nicholas Leigh-Smith confirmed prosecutors would have failed to convince him the trouser ban was required, saying the Human Rights Act was an issue.

Instead, Drummond, of Rushden in Northamptonshire, was given a four-year ban on using threatening behaviour, begging or entering the grounds of Bedford College.

Drummond said he was considering a formal complaint against the original Asbo request, adding: ‘It’s like they’re trying to change the way I dress.’

Dresses like a bum in my opinion.

    Yes.

Its probably a good thing,as when an anti social behaviour type crime is committed its easy to spot the likely suspect

To a degree, I don't disagree (which is why I wasn't "going there" in respect of the decision made".)

I think more than anything, is why the hell wear trousers that low? Easier for no 1s and number 2's? Ease of something more sinister? Rebelious statements are one thing. This just makes him look like a complete retard.

Obviously his asault and drug charges have no baring on my thoughts.

Why did I wear a ra ra skirt and neon leggings in the 80's ???

He doesn't look like a retard imo......more of a magician, not sure how he and my nephews/young male cousins keep up these trousers.......astounding :w00t:

he's not showing his 'pants' he's wearing 2 pairs of trousers, isn't he?!?

so you would be seen and safe when jogging at night?

Hasn't there always been a rich culture of young people rebelling through fashion? Wearing clothes that might seem 'daft' to grown-ups is a rite of passage. It's a significant statement of youth identity. So it seems harmless to me and certainly not something we should be using the law to try and ban. Also no reason to label anyone 'mentally wrong' (that sounds slightly Orwellian by the way, like a though crime).

So, erm, leave him alone on what he wears.

(obviously all the other issues are another matter)

All the more reason to question his sanity. Buying clothes that are too big, so he can wear something underneath, yet still loose enough for the trousers to fall down.

Its fashion. Or so my son tells me, when i tell him to pull them up. Weird!
But then i wore some weird stuff in the 80's.

Isn't the point of fashion that it looks odd to anyone who can't read the code 'correctly'. That's how you make yourself stand out from others. Young people experience this need because they have an immature and fragile identity. As they get older they no longer feel the need to 'stand out' from others (but at the same time associate strongly with their peers).

Personally, I find the idea of tying a strip of cloth tightly in a knot around your neck pretty strange. But loads of people still wear ties. Stand back from that convention and you'll start to see how pointless a tie is and then you see them like those trousers - as 'mad'

Ha ha!...it's mainly the kids that dress like this....my 17 year old wear his trousers far too low. But as already said that's what youngsters do. Of course they want to dress different from grown ups...I did. Yes it's odd, and I'm sure uncomfy too, but they'll have kids to laugh at one day!

I'm the ripe old age of 22 and think it's ridiculous and he's soft in the head. I didn't rebel by wearing clothes that made me look like an idiot. I don't think I ever did rebel to be honest, nothing to rebel against

im no gangsta, so cant really comment how "awesome" that look is, but from my point of view, when i first saw it, he is just asking someone to kick his backside?

Either way, he looks like a complete idiot.

Yep, complete tool. When I see someone like that, I hold back my laughter very badly.

The day I see skidmarks, I'll **** my pants, then we'll have 2 skanks on the street.

i do think it looks a little silly myself, im not agaist it weve all followed fasion in the past and looking back and proberly thought we looked like wallys,

but i do disagree with the young man that was siting near me in the resterant wearing his trousers like this, it really put me off my food :whistling:
