laying carpet

me and my partner are attempting to put a piece of carpet down in the spare room later, its only a small room and pretty square so shouldnt be to hard to do, what im wondering is as were using the spray adhesive to put it down do we spray this just round the edges of the room/carpet or is it better to put it all over.

Best thing to do is spray spots all round just leave a feet each spray, but really the spray is for sticking the under layer and then your meant to use carpet grips round the edge of the room for the carpet to grip to..

please tell me you are not just going to glue a carpet to floorboards!

I wouldn't glue it down personally.

I always get a good diy fit with a carpet stretcher, a strong scraper, a sharp stanley knife and a decent stapler.

Im assuming as you say spare room, its not hessian backed carpet and therefore you are ok to spray round the edges and dont use gripper, if it is hessian backed use underlay and gripper and not spray. The spray is not strong it just gives a light grip to stop it coming up easy.
