Im looking for a LCD for the bedroom to play my xbox 360 on and to watch some freeview and hd-dvds on.

These 2 following LCDS are very simillar i think and im really not sure which one to buy, there is like a £45 difference but i need to know if its worth it.

Samsung 19in SM932MW

Samsung 19" LE19R 86BDX

The 2nd one looks like a proper LCD TV and the first one a monitor and if i do get the 1st one i will have to buy a freeview box but they do look spec wise the same, so which shall i get?

You'll probably find that the SD quality on the latter is superior to the former (which I have).

The SM932MW is "ok" for Standard Definition (Sky etc) but it's not great, HD is a completely different thing altogether. The settings are also a little limited on the former.

If you're spending around £200 you might as well buy the SM2032MW, the 20" version.

cool nice one

I would generally avoid samsung monitors for xbox 360 use as their scalers don't work very well and they either stretch the picture vertically to fill the screen or enlarge it too far and cut off the edges (widescreen monitors are a taller rectangle compared to TVs). I would imagine there TVs are free of this problem though.

If you don't want to pay the extra for the TV bits then BenQ monitors seem to be pretty good in that respect.

Find a one that does 1:1 pixel mapping.

I suggest finding a monitor that you like, preferably with HDCP enabled incase you want to watch HD content over it, then Google the exact model number of the monitor your after and see who is playing a console through it and what feedback they are giving.

Surely on non-24" displays good scaling is better than 1:1 pixel mapping?

The BenQs I mentioned above are good for the newer Xbox360s with HDMI but they don't do it properly over VGA so if that's all your xbox has then look elsewhere.
