LCD TV for a Caravan ??

    Hi all,

Hope someone out there can help

After getting my parents an LCD TV for their caravan. Maybe 15"-19", however they have mentioned in passing conversations that you need a different style of plug.

I want to suprise them, so don't want to ask too many questions about what I need to buy, so my next step was to ask yourselves.

If anyone can give advice that would be great.

Thanks in advance for tolerating my naivity

    Thanks for those suggestions.

I'm more asking around the type of connection I need as I believe it is a 12v that is required.

Can't seem to find anywhere on the internet that gives much detail around it.

cant ya just buy a converter like what you would do when going to america?

I guess if no one can help you can always phone a caravan site(seems a bit extreme I know) but would get you the answers you were looking for.

Its amazing how expensive a 12v tv is.

The convertor you are suggesting is called an 'Invertor'...

Make sure if you go this route to check up on power ratings required etc

Have you tried phoning a caravan dealer for a bit of advice?

If it's a static then normal LCD's work fine.

To the OP if they hook up to a cavern site it will be 230-240v but if they intend on going mobile and stopping anywhere they will be running off 12v, all very complicated need to go to a cavern shop me thinks.

we have an lcd in our caravan and we just use the normal plug that all electrical items come with.

    I've got a 42" plasma in mine

But anyway, for motorhomes etc you're better off getting an LCD with a 12v input rather than an inverter as inverters are very inefficient. Don't go to a camping shop though as you'll get stung bigtime.

    Thanks everyone for your replies.

I think i'm going to have to call into a caravan shop as suggested as i'm totally stumped.

I can see about buying a normal LCD TV, however they plan on not always using at official caravan sites and it means they wouldn't have a TV that runs off the leisure battery.

My quest continues. Think i'll just buy them socks for Christmas :santa:

They sometimes get them in Lidl. Last time was a few months ago, when they also had the saterlite dishes in.
