    Leak Advice

:-( Odd smell in kitchen past few days, late last night decided to pull out the dishwasher - nothing but the smell was stronger. This morning, got some floorboards up under the dishwasher and found a pool of water under the floorboard :w00t: :x :w00t:

Seems that the waste pipe from the dishwasher had become disconnected slightly, we had to move the machine slightly 3 weeks ago. Packed the area with towels, soggy but pool has gone. Also noticed some small flies (little things like fruit flies).

Easy problem to solve about the waste pipe BUT Anyone know how I can dry this up quick and get rid of the smell? Any advice much appreciated...please

Towel dry the area first and then it might be worth plugging in a fan (if you have one) pointing at the area, that will dry it up and should help remove the smell, then maybe spray some febreze on the area.

Others might have some better advice but that's what I would do.

A dehumidifier in the area would work but they generally take some time (couple of days) to get the area really dry

Edit to add.... You can usually hire these from hardware shops saves you buing one for one job

As Jen said a Dehum is the only quick solution. Also chuck some bleach down there to kill of any flies eggs and mould that may be growing.

    Much appreciated thanks guys.

Would dehumidifier work, its only under the floorboards that is wet, can it work downwards??

Sorry but never used one before. Any side effects from using one generally in the house

A normal electric fan, will dry it more quickly, also open all nearby windows.

A dehumidifier is designed to extract moisture from the air.

Yes it would work It basically sucks all the moisture out of the area. i wouldn't have one on in the house permantly cos it would just dry out the air. Infact we actually have a humidifier to make the air damper in my sons room so he can breath easier.
