O2 are changing some of their terms and conditions so you may be able to end your contract early without financial penalty.

This could be rather lucrative if you have an expensive o2 contract ( not refresh ). Call them up and state you want to leave due to contract changes. Get a PAC code and take your shiny device away potentially for free.

Just got a text with the PAC code and a call back a few hours after speaking to the rep at Retentions.

They confirmed that they had to get manager approval to waive the early termination fee, after which they were able to send the PAC code out.

I'm 19 months through a 24 month Mobile Phones Direct contract, so this will save me some money!

Just to confirm, mobilephonesdirect would not chase you up after regarding this contract?

Yes - it’s the mobile data cap at 25gb. So basically if you have a 30gb+ tariff.

Excellent, so as I’m on a 45GB (30GB +15GB bonus) I just need to call 202 choose options 6 then 1 and I’m out of contract. Seems crazy that I only started it September but walk away with a phone for only 10 monthly payments @£23… will give it a whirl over the weekend.

I got an email today about it. If you are on a 12 or 24 month contract via a reseller you could be laughing as you could potentially end the contract early and keep the handset. Refresh is different as you can already leave anytime you want.

Unless you have further details to the contrary, it is highly, highly doubtful that you could retain the phone.

Well, I've got my PAC code and my contract ends as soon as I use it. The handset was provided as part of my contract. O2 are changing the terms of my contract so I can end the contract and leave at no charge. O2 refresh contracts are different though.

Happy for others to advise me if they get a different outcome.

You most definitely won't be able to if you're on a refresh deal due to the following:-

"Some of the changes to our out-of-bundle charges and Roaming Limits on Tariffs over 25GB, may mean you have the right to exit your agreement without having to pay an Early Termination Charge. If you choose to exit your agreement and have a related Device Plan you will also have to repay it in full"

I think that's why they've been encouraging people onto refresh deals to enable them to make contract changes without mass exodus of customers.

Yes, refresh isn't really affected. I was in a 24 month contract with o2 via mobiles.co.uk with 6 months left to run. Requested PAC code from o2 and I keep the device leaving penalty free

Some changes to roaming allowances and out of bundle charges. Probably nothing of major impact but it might give you a way to end your contract early if you want.

Mobile Phones Direct is where I bought my contract. £23 a month for 24 months (45GB), free iPhone SE. I have had the email, which seems to suggest I can call up and leave penalty free. Could get a sim only tariff for half the money… guess I need to call and see if it is as good as it seems!
  22. Avatar
I'm 2 months into a contract via Mobile Phones Direct. Just received the email... Be good to exit and move to sim only and save half the price.
  23. Avatar
So I have had the email does that mean all I have to do is call o2 and say I want to leave due to change in terms ?

Spent two hours on the phone, spoke to 8 different people. Most of them bounced me back to hold as soon as they learned what I wanted. The others claimed they couldn’t help and it was either customer services or retentions I needed to speak to (the opposite to who I was speaking to)

live chat said when I use my pac they will bill the termination fee but then refund it. Sure I definitely believe that.

Anyone manage to do this so far and can confirm what happens with phone if you're on a phone +sim contract?

Do you have a data allowance over 25gb? You need this to be eligible.

You might want to check the small print - I’ve heard that unlimited data tariffs already had a 25gb roaming data cap - therefore this should not have applied to you.

Not sure if that’s true - not really that interested to look into it hah

I used online chat to speak to cancellations team. They've told me to use my PAC and then when the final bill comes they will waive the termination fee and I'll only pay for the last 30 days after using my PAC.

Not sure how much I trust them. He did give me a chat reference code and emailed me the transcript as proof.

I've contemplated taking out a new s21 ultra contract waiting a month and then attempting early cancellation. In theory it'd possible as long as the old terms and conditions are still being sold. It may be more trouble than it's worth though

Rang for the 3rd time, spoken to the 7th & 8th person.

They have issued me a pac code and told me no early termintaion charges will apply. Only took contract out in march. So hopefully a win
