    LED OR LCD OR PLASMA

    Banned
Hi guys, have decided to take the plunge for a new tv.

I have approx £1000 to spend.

Which out of the three is the better one, LED,LCD or Plasma or is it based on personal choice. I cant seem to understand why there are three different tv types.

Also any reccomendations for tv, that is 1080p, clear picture, great colours.

    LED are LCD's.

    this ^

its a different way of lighting the screen

you can get full LED tvs but these will be outside of your budget

traditional LCDs use CCFL and these will be the kinda of LCD tvs that are going for £300/400 at the mo for 32/37 inch sizes

LED tvs will be more around £700/800 price range and im not too savvy on plasmas but I think from £400 or so 37inch size etc

I have a big lounge through room in the home, so i am looking for a 46 or 50 inch.

Does anyone have a tv they can reccomend?

most tvs now mate will be 1080p

it all depends on what your hooking it up to if you have xbox/ps3/blu ray player then you can get 1080p picture

if you have sky HD then you will get a high defninition picture but not in 1080p but in 1080i, it will still look very good though.

Best thing is to pop into John Lewis or wherever and have a look at what sets are available at the moment, it will give you an idea of what the tvs look like whilst connected to aerial/HD source etc

then you can come online here and find the bargains lol

Thanks i appreciate all the help.

I seen one with freesat hd. I have a sky dish in the back that i dont use. I used it before with my Sky standard box years ago before it packed in. Watched the free to view channels.

To use Freesat hd would i just need to put that aerial into the tv?

Also will Freesat HD be in 1080p? Or is that 1080i?

Sorry this is the one i like

freesat is 1080i I believe but it will still look nice

as for connecting it up etc im not too sure bout sat connections etc and not too savvy on plasmas to say if thats good or not so will have to see if anyone else can offer input!

i am glad you asked this as i do not know and will be changing my tv soon

so the difference is how they are lit but is there a difference in pic quality if they r both 1080?

lots of differing views on lcd/plasma, in general the consensus is if your going above 42" plasma gives a slightly better picture.

LED if you can or LCD, not a plasma fan tbh, go for Panasonic if you go for plasma, or Samsung/Sony LCD's dont touch LG

go for 1080 24p if poss

NEVER seen a plasma with a better picture myself...better at blacks admittedly but nowhere near as good as a LCD or an LED for that matter.

FYI the LED's arent ture LED's, they are backlit by LED's, OLED arent available yet and are bank breaking prices

I have a Panasonic plasma and it looks great, much better than the LCD i have in the bedroom, although that is also good.

I have a 42 LG Plasma and it looked a lot better than similarly priced Samsung, Toshiba and Panasonic LCDs, but that is only my opinion.

Full Led Tvs Cost A Fortune And Have Nothing To Do With Lcd.

Led Stands For Light Emitting Diode And Lcd Is Liquid Crystal Display. Different Technology Altogether!

Lcd Are Thin But The Led Is Even Thinner.

LED does stand for light emitting diode but when it is used on LCDs its used as a different way of back lighting compared to the traditional CCFL...so they are different technology but they are used together

yes you are right Full LED is more expensive and is not classified as an LCD

Full LED is not to get confused with OLED though as that is an organic material which produces the light which allows for an incredibly thin panel

LED tvs will be the thinnest as the LED lights are normally arrayed around the edges of the panel

LCD have decreased in size so they are not that bulky anymore
