    Its a strange one.

You are looking at waiting til around Summer to get your 3DTV. Even at that, the entry price is around £1500. You could get yourself a nice 42 inch around £500 LCD for now and wait til maybe xmas and move onto your 3D.

Me personally, thats what Im going to do, but wont go down the 3D route til like next Summer, Xmas at the earliest.

    3d tv! dont wait

besides you will need some way to play stuff on it, 3d blu ray

    dont bother

get a decent tv now, leave the gimmicks to others

led is better than the usual LCD, its the backlight, its brigher and makes better blacks

plasma is good, but is older tech, go for LED

led is not all its cracked up to be if one or two or even more leds fail then the picture fails very badly get a lcd a decent one a sony for 1000 will be just as good as a led and plasma is old tech but still one of the best pioneer used plasma and had super picture the best plasma money could buy not made no more if you could get a pioneer for a knock down price get it or go for a sony

    What happen to pioneer anyways

LED technology is very old technology and subsequently, LED TVs (or more specifically, LED backlit LCD TVs) are cheaper to manufacture than LCD TVs (but NOT cheaper to buy, yet). Since LED TVs eschews the need for CCFL backlighting, pxiels can be switched on or off resulting in deeper blacks than LCD TVs. LCD TVs show black by blocking the backlight (which is constantly on) and inevitable seepage of light will occur. Furthermore, since the CCFL backlight is always on with LCD TVs, they are more energy inefficient than LED TVs. Another additional advantage is that an array of LEDs take up less space than the CCFL backlight of an LCD TV resulting in thinner and lighter chassis'.

Oh LEDs have very long lifespans - much longer than CCFL backlights so I cannot see the issue with a couple of LEDs failing (after about 10 years which is their MTBF)! It's much more commonplace for LCD pixels to be stuck or even dead.

my father in law has just bought a samsung led 46inch picure is superb connected to sjy hd

Our last LED tv lasted 3 years! burned out, bought a new LED from Tesco … Our last LED tv lasted 3 years! burned out, bought a new LED from Tesco own brand and its amazing, high res picture, surround sound, picture in picture, built in free view ( doenst work in my area) its brilliant and i highly recommend it, 42in and i think we paid around £459.003 year warranty toolol dont ask me anything techy bout it cos i aint got a clue, taken me months to find out the power switch is on the side of the thing..LOL ( my 8 year old showed me)

Your last LED TV would have been purchased in 2007 at the latest. Are you sure it was an LED backlit TV? It would have been a CCFL backlit TV and the CCFL bulbs do have shorter lifespans than LEDs.

I've got a LED screen laptop and the contrast and colours are spot on - obviously it also gives a more consistent brightness across the screen as well.

pioneer stopped makeing plasma display as the high qulity componts they used in there tvs were very exspensive to source hence the massive prices there plasma had pioneer simply could not make a lot of money on there displays so stopped makeing them average price of a pioneer was around 4000 and they cant make a profit they were one of the best plasmas on market
