    Left 4 Dead 1080p requirements

I've been playing this great game using an ATI 3650 on a 19" monitor / projector... It was running pretty good at res around 1280 with everything enabled.

Then that 23 inch 1080p Dell deal happened...

What card can I get away with? What cards are people using at this res?

I read an article that suggested you could get away with a 8800gt / 9800gt 512MB. But if they are over a hundred, i'm almost looking towards a 512MB ATI 4870 ~£155.

    Things snowball...

For a fast moving game like game like L4D you really need to be running at 60fps which means a ATI 4870 unfortunately,Even better if you can get a 1gb for the high res screen , and 8800gt will give you 60fps at 1650 x 1050,

    Cheers for that.

    I've also found this:

and have been reading all the reviews on techpowerup.

I have got my 3650 running at 1280x720 in the 70fps bracket with some dropped texture detail and lower AA. I guess I need to assess what I am willing to spend. I did find a nice 512mb 4850 that is supposed to be very quiet. I've not found a quiet 4870, maybe that will be in the next ATI line refresh.

It's probably worth pointing out that you shouldn't be running at 70fps. LCD monitors peak at 60fps, so to get any higher than that, you have to turn Vsync off. With Vsync turned off, you do see 70fps, but since the panel can only show 60fps, it shows you 70fps by cramming those frames into the 60. This means each frame the monitor displays is made up by about 1.2 frames put out by the GPU, which means you get tearing and stuttering, and it all looks a bit rubbish

Edit: Forgot about how idiot-friendly the "child-friendly" world-filter was.
