Leg stretches for easy high kicks

I thought this would be the best place to ask knowing how flexible and sporty the lot of you are. Okay when I try to do side kicks I get a stabbing pain in my outer thigh. I have no problem doing a forward kick. The pain is unbearable so I was hoping one or more of you could suggest stretching exercises that could ease the outer thigh. I do splits and sideway splits if that makes sense (not all the way down) regularly. This problem is stopping me in my tracks and I really want to get rid of it.

Thanks

i have terrible groins for doing side kicks.. best to look at technique of the actual kick from the sounds of things as you seem very flexible

if you did a side kick with your right leg would the pain be in your right thigh? is it ur quad going?

with your side kick are you bringing your knee up twisting and thrusting out with a flat foot?

I hope on one leg, lift my leg with it already being fully stretched out and everytime I get around the height of my hips I get a stab like pain in my outer thigh.

Do you arc your body back while you kick sidewards or is your body straight upright?

surely lift your leg bent, then extend rotating slightly with your heel first.. that seemed to be the general technique in that vid.. pretty sure just lifting your leg up horizontally fully stretched out is pretty much impossible without bending then extending first

Yeah everytime I do this, I get this crunch feeling just under my hip joint, that's why I've been doing it a little differently.

is it defo muscle then? crunch sounds a bit more like your joint/ligaments

Technique, strength and stretching. if none of those are followed or lacking you will get that pain for defo

I was hoping it would be muscle, that way I could just stretch it but, I'm starting to think otherwise too. Is it worth going to the doctors for?

^ +1 - if you're getting crunching sounds you might need to seek your GP's advice ... and maybe stop it for a while !

No pain ever.

with regards to if its worth going an seeing the GP, i would/did with my shoulders, they will no doubt put you on a list to see physioptherapists and it actually takes a matter of years for anything to be resolved really..

could just fast track yourself and pay for a consultancy session from a registered physiotherapist, or try get some uni students to look at you for free!

turns out my shoulders were genetic and there wasnt really anything i could do after much wasted time.. but at least i know

could be isolated specific muscles your using just when doing that movement but a physiotherapist would be the only one who could tell this after a session, could also be ligaments as well i suppose...

its even on both sides which would suggest it isnt an injury sustained in your lifetime which is kinda good i suppose, otherwise one would probs be worse than the other

Oh damn sorry to hear that, I busted my rotary cuffs whilst at the gym. I had to quit and since then, even picking up just a few kilos (1-3) puts massive strain on my shoulders and the pain is unbearable. I was told surgery would fix it but I've been putting it off, reason being I'd have to stop jogging for about a year and various other things and I just don't think I can at the moment.

they thought it was my rotators which are heavilly affected but i have pretty substantial scapular winging.. can barely lift my arms above my head much to the amusement of some of my friends! FSHD thankfully doesnt affect my face or hips though, think i got the best of a bad bunch no more rugby though

Don't do side kicks.

Yo jo! I've got a winged scapula. Doc reckons its the result of a viral infection a few years back.

Deek whats with the new avi?

OP might be worth sending Boothy a pm as he knows about all of this stuff and helped me out in the past with fitness advice

Well, since you mention it, if I remember correctly it was actually Granville who instigated the recent spate of avi changing when he decided to take over my avi. I just thought I may also well have a little change myself. I also seem to remember, didn't you change yours for little while around about the same (exact) time as him?

Some comments aimed at this particular member have shocked me tbh. It's a bargain website, some people must take it very serious. oO

Re the racism comment. Today Granville posted a cartoon picture depicting me and my wife.,(jo will confirm this) It was of a very skinny bald white man which i may or not be, and.a gremlin. My avi is of a geeky asian.
Difference please?

Deek you really are embarrassing - changed days - you used to be a great poster on here. Cant say its a mid life crisis as you are way too old for that now.
