Legal highs - the after effects of illegalization

Are all those people buying from (now illegal) head shops now struggling to feed their addictions?

Context - ban.

A blanket ban on so-called legal highs has come into force in the UK.
Laws criminalising the production, distribution, sale and supply of what are otherwise known as new psychoactive substances began at midnight.
The chemicals, sold under names such as spice and black mamba, are designed to give users the same effect as drugs like cannabis and cocaine.
Last year legal highs were linked to more than 100 deaths in the UK and a rise in violent assaults in prison.
Will ban on legal highs work?
Offenders who break the new laws will face up to seven years in prison under the Psychoactive Substances Act.
Police will also be able to shut down "headshops" - stores which sells drug paraphernalia - and online dealers in the UK.
However, there have been warnings the ban could drive the sale of the drug to the so-called "dark web" - a largely untraceable area of the internet that does not show up on traditional search engines.
A survey by the YMCA charity - conducted ahead of the ban coming into force - also suggested two-thirds of young people who currently take the drugs are likely to continue using them in the future.

the substances should be illegal imo, just wondering what people's views are of the after effects of the ban. Did those same clients just shift to the traditional illegal drugs or buying those psychoactives from other places or shifting to legal drugs such as alcohol ?

about time they were banned, giving off the impression because they were legal they can't or won't do much damage, or be ok to take. once seen a documentary, a doctor was asked if patient "a" came in full of ecstasy and patient "b" came in full of legal highs, who would you rather treat. he said patient "a", cos at least he knew what was in ecstasy, and could treat it.

The whole issue with drugs needs to be reevaluated. You need to start from a position where you accept that people will always seek out mind-altering substances and go from there.

The immediate effect here was that the local legal high shop tried to become a vape shop instead, but kept having its windows smashed by angry addicts so had to close.

One of our local ones did too in Chez Vegas, sounds like the exact same scenario.

i guess we will never know what most addicts do as the majority will not go shouting about what they have done since the ban, I would imagine they will still seek whatever they were addicted to (legal or not)

Can't see the lawyers/law having much effect
just chill

What if they start drinking bleach, Are we going to have to ban that too?.

You're right smoking and snorting unregulated chemicals makes sense, I hope they make the psychoactive legal highs legal again so that you can enjoy them.

Sounds more like an argument for keeping them legal but regulating and taxing them, then everyone knows exactly what's in them and users are paying for the costs to the NHS of treating those who don't know when to stop.

I didn't state you said that did I fella?

Take your own advice.

If you think unregulated psychoactive legal highs are as safe as coffee and tea then I hope they make them legal again so that you aren't prevented from sampling them.
