    let's Talk Sky Q

Hi guys, Sky upgraded me to Sky Q last week and I have mixed feelings about it..

Anybody else have any problems ? Or do you love it?

My issues are the mini box, it loses signal , it doesn't work if the main box goes into standby.

My other problem is the wifi traffic if you use wifi, each box has its own SSID and my home is so congested now and I have noticed my broadband is slower

Anybody else have sky Q ? What's your opinions so far

I was thinking about getting it but only if Sky upgrade me for free. Did you have to pay anything to upgrade? I've heard mixed comments about this

I think it was the last episode of the series a few weeks ago , may be on I player ,should be on the website

It was a free upgrade offer, engineer said there offering allot of multi room subscribers a free upgrade to reduce the amount of viewing cards they have, I guess it's to stop naughty people who share subscriptions.

My monthly amount has actually decreased with the Sky Q upgrade from £45pcm for full package in 3 rooms to £32.50pcm for the same.

I'm considering getting it taken out to tbh and going back to Sky+

No issues quite anything you said here. U get the occasional crash which requires an off and on from the wall but otherwise both small and 2tb boxes have been fine.
Broadband also fine though i do use corporate access points around the house and I wired in the main q box.

For 4k movies, have you checked your video settings on the q box that the resolution is set to uhd? By default from memory it's set to 1080i I think

Had it installed a few months back, had some major issues with the sky mesh (their WiFi direct system used between the sky boxes) so had to totally disable the WiFi on each box and connect by cable instead. Not had any issues since, takes some getting used to the new ui (pressing left to go back instead of a back button). UHD wouldn't say is overly that great, not much content, no live channels all downloaded stuff, so make sure you have a good broadband connection as a movie is nearly 20gb.

I have disabled wifi on both boxes and connected via power line will give that a go. Sky mesh is pointless as I don't have sky broadband so it won't improve my wifi. I'm with Virgin as there the only reliable provider in my area. UHD download is fine most stuff can be played within seconds, it's not true 4K tho. It's similar to Sky+ and the 1080i instead of 1080p crap. Picture is fine tho.

Have Sky Installed a wifi router ?
My signal to the sky mini boxes were poor so thankfully the engineer provided a router box to improve the signal...

    Nope?

I've got sky q and a minibox. Wifi is fine but our bedroom is above the main box so signal is good. Everything is wireless and internet speed is about the same as before to be honest.

You mean the Sky booster (white box)?
Never knew they had one until I read a computer magazine in WH Smith when I was trying to kill time.

I got it and works perfectly. Engineer installed a sky q wireless repeater because my wifi sucks upstairs and never buffers at all. Really pleased with it, just wish they'd hurry up with my 43" tv!!!!

no mini box, but the basic sky q runs well-no issues.

Did you have to do anything special to get such a good offer? My Sky is due to shoot up to £83 in February and I tried yesterday with Livechat to get a discount - Thinking of leaving etc. - No joy, mentioned I would be interested in Sky Q (hoping the upsell would get some sort of offer) but in fact they said the price would go up should I want Sky Q

It's on the iPlayer, watching it now. Aired 21st Dec

Only issue have found so far is mini box doesn't like 1080p, even on wired lan, get "artifacts" across the screen, and screen goes black with no signal, but have a feeling it's actually the box itself so will ring up sky at some point to replace it. 1080i works flawlessly.

I think it's who you get through too on the phone, when I got an offer back in October (£22 month, box sets, cinema and multiroom free for a year) you have to be persistent, also noticed sometimes you might get a Glasgow centre and another in the south, the Glasgow office seem the best. If all else fails put in your notice and wait for retentions to ring

It was the £20 a month with £100 credit Black Friday deal for complete bundle on here, I needed 3 rooms tho so it was £45.

Sky Q was a free upgrade somebody rang me week before Christmas and offered it me at no additional cost.

Had it about a month or so now, on the whole really pleased. Still not 100% re new menu layout tbh, but getting used to it. It definitely feels like an upgrade to me. I have a fairly large house, with 3 mini boxes spread about the place; the sky engineer installed a white wifi extender box and tbh I get pretty good coverage every where. But my house is relatively new, so most internal walls are plasterboard on wood frame rather than brick or stone, so signal from wifi generally good. My only real issue is with the remote, it randomly causes the program I am watching to fast-forward, even though the remote is sitting on a side-table at the time and hasn't been touched for some time. Only happens a couple of times a week tho, so putting up with it atm.

My experience is that to get a decent deal you need to go straight thru to Retentions and ask them whether they will do a deal to keep you (assuming you have been with them for a while and haven't done this before); suggest that you are fed up seeing all the adverts for give-aways to new customers while you have had nothing for your loyalty. Say you are going to leave and go to Virgin media otherwise. That is what I did and it worked for me. I got thru to a lovely lady in Glasgow who couldn't have been more helpful. I changed over to Sky Broadband from BT Infinity, moved to SkyQ from Sky+, dropped Sky Sports as tbh I just don't ever have time to watch it anymore (£17pm saved) and the overall saving to me was about £60pm for 10 months. Then goes up by abt £20pm I seem to recall, but was told by her to call back at that point and ask for another deal to stay. She said they do have authority to offer incentives to long-term customers, but not to advertise the fact.

I might try 1080i cheers for tip

That damn blue laser light. Had to put tape over mine couldnt stand it lol

I will not be joining the que for Q.
2tb Sky + is proven technology giving only occasional problems.
Amazingly my other box (250mb) has never in 8 years played up.

250mbit are you sure that's a legit one. 250GB was the smallest sky HD+ we had.

A bit late I know but change power mode from Eco to Normal on the main box. This will prevent the mini boxes from crashing.

I still get the odd niggle once in a blue moon but nothing a flick of the switch won't help.
