Yep, I remember them but don't know why. My favourite was "c"
Blast from the past but yes, I do remember the letters too. Think it was in the days where cheap plastic lids with letters on them kept kids amused for hours unlike nowadays
They were meant as a teaching aid
Smarties in the UK were traditionally sold in cylindrical cardboard tubes, capped with a colourful lid usually having a letter of the alphabet on it. The purpose of this, according to a Rowntrees' spokesperson in the 1980s, was for them to be useful as a teaching aid to encourage young children to recognise the letters. Over the last 25 years, Nestlé has manufactured five billion Smarties lids. Some lids are very rare and are now regarded as collectors' items.

Do we think this is down to a safety issue as the kids now are getting thicker and thicker and trying to eat the plastic ?

I used to love Smarties, especially the orange ones, they seemed to be the only ones that tasted any different
Apparently the e-numbers in these made me go hyper when I was a kid!

Being them back I say, I need a fix oO

wiki says you are wrong, its only because they couldn't find a natural blue dye that they removed blue, therefore leaving people to believe it was the blue smartie causing the issues, it was all the smarties that did it, but they found natural dyes for the other colours
They're not as nice now with the natural colours, i'm sure they've done something to the chocolate too. Does anyone remember the limited edition white ones with greeny meanies?
rare smarties lids? - explain further..
